Wearing heels for wedding but flats for reception...

Melissa, on August 23, 2013 at 10:22 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

So ladies, for all of you who are wearing heels or did for the wedding ceremony and then changing into flats for the reception. Are you worried about the bottom of your dress dragging all over the floor at the reception?

I'm afraid I won't be able to tolerate my heels (I bought a 4in heel) for hours and I would like to change into something more comfortable even if it is just halfway through the reception.

What are your thoughts and feelings about that ?

I'm getting platform flipflops for the reception. I can't wear flats my FH is 6'1'' and I'm only 5 feet so dancing would be very awkward but i refuse to wear super high heels all day so that's the plan! My dress is long so you don't be able to see them anyway, s'all good.

I'm wearing heels that are about 3-4 inches, maybe shorter but I'm a heel wearing girl so I should be okay.

My dress was ordered by length so i have to get 3.5-4 inch heel. i can do heels for long periods if they are the right type so i have yet to buy anything yet. i most likely will be changing half way into the reception and and that point i prob wont care anymore lol

I had 3in heels for the ceremony, and wore them until after our first dance. I then changed into flip flops with low heels. And after a while, my feet were so sore from my high heels that I got rid of shoes all together. My dress was dragging on the floor, but at that point I couldn't care less.

I'm 5'3" and he is 6' so I definitly want heels. I like to wear them but I'm worried they will evenutally be killing me LOL. But i thought about platform flip flops as well.

Caroline, I'm sure I'll be just like you and not care less at that point about my dress dragging lol.

I have 4 inch heels that I LOVE!!! I am doing flip flops that are platform for after so that I don't have to worry about that. You can find them a lot of places, but I am doing my own so they match :0)

I have heels for the ceremony and a pair of flats for the reception. My dress will drag, but since the reception is inside, I am hoping that I just won't care at that point.

I opted for flats for the entire time.

I'm 5'6" and FH is about 6', and I'm not too worried about that. I just want to be comfortable and worrying about my feet being in pain is the last thing I want on my mind!

Love the wedges...I thought about those as well but hadn't seen any pretty ones. I'm wearing black shoes. But looks like I'm not the only one that will be changing and glad no one else seems to care about the dress dragging LOL.

Amy - how are you doing your own platform flip flops? where are you ladies finding yours at ?

I let my dress drag and I didn't care. The reception was outside grass and heels do not work. I felt like this: It is a dress I will wear only once and I might as well get the most use out of it.

There are lots out there, but the "pretty" ones are really expensive. So just buying plain white ones and putting ribbon, rhinestones and starfish (to match theme) on them. I have made bridal flip flops for lots of friends weddings and they love them so now it's my turn! That way they are exactly what I want and I promise that they are super easy and quick to customize :0)

I'm wearing pretty low heels for the ceremony but I can't tolerate them for long periods regardless. Probably going to get the dress hemmed halfway between (approx 1.5"-2" heels) so that my feet don't show during the ceremony but movement won't be impeded during the reception.

It's not necessarily just about the dress dragging...if it's heavy you also risk tripping and falling or being annoyed that you're always having to pick it up. If your dress is big or heavy just talk to your seamstress...they have all sorts of solutions!
