Waxing before the wedding?

I am planning to get a bunch of waxing done before the wedding (eye brows, arms, legs etc.) but I'm unsure of when to do it. I'm scared that if I do it on Thursday (for Sat wedding) I may still be red...but if I do it any sooner, the hair could potentially grow back before the wedding. When are you...

When are you getting waxed for the wedding?

L&G, That's funny because it's the opposite for me. Waxing my armpits takes a 5 minutes total and hurts WAAYYY less than down there!!

I regularly wax my eyebrows, arms underarms and Brazilian. If I know I have an event going, I will purposely let the hair grow longer before that event than I normally would so that the wax has longer hair to pull and gets more.

If you're going to do it, do 3-5 days before if you have sensitive skin (I'm lucky, I can do the day before and have no reactions). Don't exfoliate for a day or two after, it will irritate your skin because waxing exfoliates too. Use something like an ingrown hair serum religiously for the 1-3 days after (and by religiously I mean at least twice a day) because it will help reduce any irritations you have. I like the ingrown hair serum from European Wax Center but there are others that have similar formulas and work.

Brazilian is by far the most painful but it is bearable. If your underarm hair is long enough there is very minimal discomfort and everything will come out the first time (minimal plucking for cleanup). Arms are dependent on how much hair you have. If you haven't done any of those before, stop any kind of trimming/grooming 2-3 weeks before (depending on how fast your hair grows).

I would definitely suggest getting waxed way before the wedding if this is your first time getting waxed! It takes some getting used to and everyone will react differently to the type of wax, the temperature, etc. I get Brazilians regularly, so I know my own routine with my girl, and will have it done a week prior to my wedding. I don't wax my eyebrows anymore, and instead go with threading, which is only red for a short time afterwards. And I'm still old school and will shave my underarms the day of the wedding...

Test run for sure. I've seen my sister not react well to wax so on her eyebrows it looked like she was broken out with a ton of pimples!

I'm reading your post as though you've not waxed before, or not in a while. If that's the case, DON'T WAIT until right before your wedding to test this!! You don't know how your skin will react!

Please please please do a test run now!! I had a friend try her eyebrows. They burned her skin and left a huge scab that took months to heal. If you dony normally wax, I honestly wouldn't except for your bikini line

I'm having the same dilemma with my arms -- I like to wax them every 2 months, but last time I went we realized that part of my [completely natural] tan came off on the strips! So I have a few little splotches on my arm, noticeable only if you really stare, but I don't want to have striped arms in my wedding photos! Not sure what to do about that lol I think I'll probably get different parts waxed at different times -- arms a week or two in advance, Brazilian a few days in advance.

Great reminder! I have sensitive skin and I need to return for upper leg and b. wax this month to start de-sensitizing. After a few majorly bad eyebrow wax reactions, I've been getting mine threaded for years.

I wax regularly, so I'm planning on doing it earlier in the week (the shop where I get it done is closed Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday for Thanksgiving) If his is your first time getting it done, I suggest doing a trial run now to:

    1. See how your skin responds

    2. See how quickly the hair grows back

Lmao KT: thanks for reminding me of my pain!

Honestly it wasn't THAT painful...but I also took a strong pain killer before I went...so that might have had something to do with it.

Lesson learned! I'm going in for wax #2 in a week or two. I'm trying to withstand the grossness of it growing out, but I don't know how much longer I can take it.

I think it really depends on the person.... because when I wax my brows my redness is gone within the hour, but I also grow so much hair so quickly that if I didn't wax my brows you would think I was the proof that there is bigfoot, as lond as you saw me walking in the woods lol! I don't wax anything else though, so that's all the advice I have.

My hair grows sooo quickly so I'm planning on doing all my waxing Friday before my Sunday wedding (2 days before).

Please make sure you research the place where you are planning to go wax. I always go to European Wax & love them. It's the stripless wax. Make sure the place you go DOES NOT double dip!!!! So many places do this and it's DISGUSTING! European wax doesn't double dip & it's the most painless wax I've ever had! If they do have the strips, ask them to test a small area to make sure the wax isn't too hot for you so you don't get burned. Also European wax has a serum for ingrown hairs that's awesome! & if you're doing bikini area they recommend exfoliating 2-3 days after (no sooner) to help prevent ingrown hairs. I would start waxing now to see how you react to determine when you should do it for yor weddingSmiley smile

I've definitely been waxed and sugared many, many times! Not sure why I gave the impression that I haven't haha

The two spots I'm most worried about being red is my eyebrows and upper lip. I get red when I have those two waxed...but those areas also grow back really quickly for me. So I'm concerned about doing it too soon/too late.

I think I'll do 5 days before. Seems like a good medium between everyone's suggestions.

I'll do it a the day before... maybe two days just to be on the safe side. Anytime I have waxed in the past, any redness is gone within a few hours.

Ultimately though you really need to base it on how your particular skin reacts. You know your skin best. do some test runs and see how it goes Smiley smile

I would be wary of waxing eyebrows, especially if you're doing it on your own. I've been told that it's a bad idea to use wax on your face because the skin is so much more sensitive, and the blood is closer to the surface. I've had friends start to bleed when taking the wax off of their faces because of that.
