Waxing before the wedding?

C&S, on April 1, 2015 at 3:00 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 40

I am planning to get a bunch of waxing done before the wedding (eye brows, arms, legs etc.) but I'm unsure of when to do it. I'm scared that if I do it on Thursday (for Sat wedding) I may still be red...but if I do it any sooner, the hair could potentially grow back before the wedding.

When are you getting waxed for the wedding?

Does your hair normally grow back that quickly? For brows I think you'd be fine. I know my legs are slightly stubbly the next day, so maybe Friday for everything.

*A tip, in case they didn't mention this to you: Especially for your arms and legs, let the hair grow a bit long. If it's too short, the wax will have a hard time finding something to stick to.

I'm thinking a week before the wedding. My skin is sensitive and takes time to adjust after a wax. Also my hair doesn't grow back quickly either, so I can get away with the week.

I will not be waxing. Tweezing works well for me. As for anything else, shaving. I got a bikini wax once. I did everything she told me to do before and after, and I had small red bumps for almost a year. Never again. Plus it HURRRRRRT.

I have sensitive skin, so I do sugaring. (worth the google. The perks -- such as it only being body temperature, and not hot-- are worth it alone). I would give yourself a couple of days, especially if haven't done it before and don't know how you'll react. I do my eyebrows, and my bikini area, and have been for 1x a month for the last 13 months (my eyebrows are SUPER light so I only get them done every 3 months). Maybe do it the week before? Monday or Tuesday at the latest, so your body can get used to it? Or start now and then by June your hair will have gone through at least 2 cycles and will be less painful and easier to maintain.

@Chelsea - yes. Just ask KM. I know she had a bad experience with armpit waxing because she didn't let it grow. She said it involved a lot of plucking.

My best advice is to do a test run and just do the eyebrows or some small area. See how long your skin is red for. I would think it'd only be maybe 8 hours or so until the color goes back to normal, but if you have sensitive skin, this could be longer.

I get my brows waxed every 2-3 months. They don't grow back very quickly. However, waxing makes my brows red for like..2-3 days. I would honestly wait at least 5 days. Nothing in your brow will grow out in that time. Even at the 3 month mark, they're not that bad. And I'm Italian where body hair is ridiculous (TMI, whatever).

I can't speak for legs/arms, etc because I've never done it.

I think I'm going to a week before. I usually get a little red and swollen but my hair doesn't grow back quickly so that works for me.

I'm having my brows done like 10 days in advance. I tend to get a couple small pimples that pop up every time, so that should be enough for them to go away. I can just tweeze any hairs that grow in that time. I go to have them shaped really.

My makeup lady said to do it no sooner than 7 days before the wedding. Waxing changes the chemistry of the skin and wil affect how the makeup goes onto your skin. You'll be able to see a difference in that spot in pics

I wax my lex & lady parts every 4-6 weeks.

I have pretty sensitive skin and usually by the time I get home from the salon all my redness & bumps are gone (usually about an hour or 2 later). I dont wax my brows but thread them (and my mustache) and same goes for that usually within 2 hours the redness and swelling is gone. I would say go for a test run a few months before the wedding just to see how your skin is going to reach to the wax.

Also like I said I am a religious waxer, but NOTHING hurts like armpit waxing (at least for me) make sure you have let the hair grow for a while because that skin is so sensitive and thin that it really hurts like a B*tch if theres not enough hair for the wax to grab on to!

I'll plan on getting myself waxed/threaded like 2 days before the wedding

I did the bikini wax about a week ahead of time IIRC. I do my own brows though and did those a few days before.

I wax my eyebrows and lady bits every 5 weeks, take about 3 days for the "down there" to calm down haha, and I like to give in a week before my makeup is totally sitting normally on my face. My waxing will be a week before the wedding. I have also heard horror stories about underarm wax (that its waaaay mroe painful than a brazilian), so I think I might use nair or something

Oh L&G it is soooo much worse than a Brazilian! I'd do that a 100x over before doing my underarms! lol in fact I do!

The more you wax the longer it'll take it to grow back, so I did it 2.5 months out, will do it 1.5 months out, then do it a week before and it will be good and non sensitive. Waiting that close you may get ingrown hairs if there's too much "friction" during your honeymoon 3 days out- I'd do a week

Are you usually red days after waxing? I only stay red for a few hours, so will probably do it 2-3 days before. I hadn't really thought about it until now.

ETA: Have you thought about just bleaching your arm hair? It looks pretty funky when it starts to grow back and girls have stubbly arms.

Have you been waxed before? I would do a test-run at least a month ahead of time. Do it on a Thursday, and see how your skin is on Saturday.

I would routinely wax months out in advance. Your skin may react differently, you'll need to get a feel for how long it grows back, pain tolerance, style of waxing, etc. Legs will probably be the least you'd have to worry about, but for the sensitive areas (armpits, face, nether regions) you'll want to do it a few times.

After the first time waxing you'll realize only ~60% of the hair will grow back, and it will be soft. Over a long period of time less and less hair will grow back, it will become thinner, lighter, and softer.

And for me, at least, it did hurt less and less each time as long as I did it routinely.

source; i wax at home. it's awesome.
