Waxing at home???

Brandi ♥'s Chris, on March 25, 2011 at 4:55 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20

Ok, so I always go to the salon to get waxed, but I have been thinking about buying a professional wax warming pot and all of the supplies and doing it myself. I was just thinking that it could save me some trips to the salon and maybe some money. Just wondering if anyone has done this themselves and how easy or hard it is. Any input is appreciated. Thanks

I use Sally Hansen microwaveable hard wax. I also have a coffee mug warmer that I keep it on while I'm working to keep it usable. It doesn't use those fabric strips so that's a nice bonus and it actually works! I honestly think it hurts less than getting it done with the soft wax and strips at the salon. It's my ghetto version of buying all the real supplies like you are thinking about doing. I figured I'd start small and work up to the professional products level once I was really good. I'm at the end of my first hard wax jar now and I'm still too shaky to want to go all out. Maybe another jar and I'll be there Smiley smile

Sounds brave to me. But then again I've only had my eyebrows waxed. I'm still building up the nerve to get my lady parts done!

I do some of my own waxing at home. The hardest part is to keep going once you start, especially in the bikini line. It's not difficult to do the waxing, but I find I start to flinch and not get as good a result. My lip is no problem, and in between my eyebrows. I don't like to do the eyebrow shaping. I don't shape it as nicely as at the salon.

I had a friend who tried to wax her lady parts herself and said it was a big FAIL! LOL! She said that she ended up having to have her boyfriend finish for her because it was too hard for her to inflict the pain on herself. When you have someone do it for you they just do it. When you do it yourself you hesitate and don't have the same ruthlessness of a professional! That being said, If you want to give it a shot go for it! And let us know how it turns out! =)

Here's that story. It's funny and painful.

I"d never try to wax my lady parts at home. OUCH. Its not that painful to get them done. Price wise is a different story. But pain wise, depends on the wax, and waxer. But I wouldn't attempt to do it yourself.

If you're just doing your face, you can try Sally Hussen, she always makes a cream.

Haha, that story is pretty funny. But she did have the pre waxed strips, which I have heard alot of people say that sometimes the wax will come off and stick to your body. I have a pretty high tolerance for pain, so I think I'll be ok. I'm gonna try my legs and brows first. If it goes well, then I will move on. Since a few of you said you have done it at home, I think I'm gonna give it a try. This is the wax I'm looking to purchase. It supposedly has more of a creamy texture and helps lessen the pain, according to the reviews. So I'm gonna purchase the warmer, wax, strips, and whatever else and see how it goes.

I use the nair strips...just cut them into much much smaller strips to use on my eyebrows. They work great! I've never had any problems at all. They don't hurt and the wax never stays on my skin from the strip. They're cheap too. I've never tried them any where else though. I'd totally recommend them!

Thanks for reminding me to book waxing before the honeymoon! I just booked my eyebrow tint & wax, underarm & bikini wax.

I can't color in the lines, so no home wax for me!

    @ Holly...lol

@ Kristin, I was reading some reviews on Nadss wax strips. Some people say they work and some say they don't . I was considering trying them. The I got the idea to just get the whole waxing set up, that way I know it will work for sure.

Http://www.nads.com/faq....it is a cold wax, and supposedly easy. That way you don't have to heat up stuff. Also, if you call some of the laser hair removal places, they may sell the numbing cream....I know the place I went to did. Might help with the pain. My little jar was $30 and there is still tons and tons left.....a little goes a long way. Good luck!

If you are only doing your face, I say go for it! I do my brows at home....but yes, for other areas, go get it done professionally. I tried doing my legs one time and it was a complete pain in the a$$....luckily I tried my legs first before more sensitive areas....because I knew not to even go there after trying my legs!

I agree about the lady parts. The article sums it all up. I convinced an ex boyfriend to do it for me and there was blood involved Smiley sad It was gut wrenching pain

It seems simple enough... but lady area is sensitive territory my mom (tmi) thought it was super simple and bruised the crap outa herself! thats one area I would not attempt alone but other areas legs etc. Are less sensitive and I can deal with doing that by myself!

Yea, I agree. That area is really sensitive and could be easily done the wrong way. I am still gonna get the supplies and try everything else though. =)
