Wash hair the morning of wedding?

Brook, on October 10, 2019 at 11:02 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 53
I know it’s been asked before. I have oily wavy/straight long hair and typically wash it once a day (I know it sounds bad but every person I’ve ever had work with my hair has said it is healthy and that me doing that isn’t hurting it). I take pride in my hair and treat it well. My stylist told me not to wash it the day of, but I’m afraid it will be too oily by the end of the night if I don’t wash it the morning of the wedding. The wedding isn’t until 6pm, and I’ll probably be waking up at 9am. Getting my hair styled around 1:30-2pm or so. What should I do? I’m leaning more towards washing it the morning of, especially since when I wake up it typically is a mess since I toss and turn a lot. I’m conflicted though.

I would say it depends on how well your hair will hold and how you’re styling it.

Is your stylist familiar with your hair or have you explained how oily your hair gets? Dirty hair holds styling better, but I would talk to your stylist a bit more about the issue or maybe ask your regular hairdresser.

It depends on what you’re having done to it. Usually hair that’s a little dirty will hold up better!

Dirty hair typically holds better. Have you considered dry shampoo? The texture could also help with styling.

My hair is super oily! I wash it everyday! (I know it’s bad) my hair stylist told me don’t wash it the day off or it won’t last, I was nervous about it so what I did was wash it the night before and my maid of honor which is also a stylist blow dried it so it would be tamed (she stayed at the hotel with me) My curls held all day the next day on my wedding day. My stylist added product to my hair and my hair looked fine all night.

I know what you mean, mine gets oily as well! I would definitely wash it the day of just to avoid it potentially getting oily you don’t want to worry about that as the day/night goes on. Mine is the same way and normally will get like that the second day after washing it, mid afternoon. I would def wash it day of no question unless your concerned about the style holding up?? Mine would hold up fine but maybe the stylist told you that for that reason which I’ve heard before. You know your hair and I would definitely not risk it on that day she’s not as familiar with your hair as you are.

Dirty hair holds much better, get some good dry shampoo and some volumizer. These are what I use, and they are awesome and inexpensive. (Believe me, I’ve tried EVERYTHING! Lol)

Wash it. You will feel better about it all day. My hair is shiny and healthy, though frequently washed. I washed it wedding day morning when I got up. And again at 6 pm when I showered before putting my dress on. You know your hair, whether it is flyaway, or gets an oily scalp, or whatever. Hairdressers can only talk in general, but you are the expert on you.

I know they say it’s better but it probably does depend on your hair. I usually wash my hair every other day so I was ok with washing it the night before.

Maybe talk to your stylist about your concerns. I’ve always been told just to wash it the night before. Like others have said you could use dry shampoo I think it will help.

Hmm. My stylist told me to wash and dry my hair that morning and be ready with "dry and clean hair."

I feel like product can be added to clean hair to provide texture and hold (dirty it up), but the reverse cannot be done - you cannot clean your hair up with product.

I also have oily hair and for any big events where I needed to get my hair done, I always wash my hair the morning of. I've never had any luck having my hair a little dirty, curls just fall out and it looks gross even if I use dry shampoo. You know your hair the best, so if you feel more comfortable with washing it the morning of, then that's what I would do if I were you!

Wash it. I think it would bother you knowing you didn't the rest of the day. I am washing my hair too. If I don't wash it every day it gets super greasy and oily, I have super fine hair. I told my hair person I am and she is totally fine with it and understands.

    Wash it the day of.
    I am. My
My stylist said the old "dirty hair holds better" thing is ancient history now. There's so many styling products to add texture. It's a non-issue.
You will feel better if you wash it the morning of.

I have to use dry shampoo everyday for my oily hair. I would definitely have them spray some of that in your hair before styling!

Dry shampoo, girl! I live for it. They have mini bottles for this exact issue. If the stylist recommended not washing it, I wouldn't!

I HATE when stylists say that haha my hair and makeup lady literally said "i have no idea why stylists say that, wash your hair obviously. no one wants dirty greasy hair on your wedding day. of course I can still style it and make it stay all day if it's clean." so I 100% washed my hair like I do everyday and my hair stayed perfectly styled for 12 hours.

There's no way I would NOT wash my hair. If you hairstylist is decent, it should not be an issue to have clean hair.

Based on what you've said, and the time you need to be ready by, I think it would be ok to wash the morning of. I mean, let's face it, you know your own hair, better than anyone. I personally don't wash my hair everyday, but that's because it gets dry and brittle if I do. You obviously don't have this problem. And since your styling won't happen until the early afternoon, it should be fine if washed that morning.

I say go with what works for you.

I have very straight soft hair so doing a style on me is work. I do have oily hair but not an everyday oily hair. I wash my hair every other day instead. I washed my hair the day off the wedding and they were able to style it just fine. I had an updo but with lots of hair spray.
