Was your initial budget realistic?

Michelle, on May 19, 2019 at 10:53 PM Posted in Planning 0 67
How far over your initial budget did/will your wedding end up being? Mine is somehow within $600 of my initial target but it's not very similar to my first draft. I initially thought I could get a photographer for $500 and a videographer for $200 lol so things had to be cut to make it happen. Did yall have any better luck with your estimations?

Yeah, we are way over our initial budget. We revised it after we started really looking at prices for venues and other vendors. We are now also over that. I'm also in a pretty expensive area (NY metro area).

We had budgeted $15k for everything. We came in just over $13k.

    No. And yes.
When I started thinking about it, I thought 5k was enough.
    When I started researching, I decided 7k.
If everything had fallen into place like I wanted it to, 7k was super realistic.
Now we don't have a budget.
Just a "dont go crazy" motto.

I wish I was within $500 of my original budget. My budget was originally $20k and now we are approaching $30k. Thank God all the major things are booked or else I might cry 😂

This is basically where I'm at now. Setting a hard budget became too difficult so I've just tried to be as thrifty as possible with each thing on my checklist

Ours was completely unrealistic for the area we live in (Upstate NY) We've spent 2x the amount we initially budgeted for. The venue alone was almost half of out budget 🤦🏽‍♀️ I think it's partly because we didn't know there were so many extra things we could have that we decided to get.

Originally though $10k. Bumped it up to $15k about 2-3 months in. I'll probably finish around $14-15k.

Original budget was $15K for our destination wedding including hotel and flights (which is two flights, one for planning week we took then one for the wedding). And certain categories I’ve gone over, others under but overall I’m only currently about $500 over budget and 90% of everything is purchased.

I had 10k in mind. So far I've spent 6k and I have another 2700 to pay for assuming no addition guest RSVP.

Yes and no lol. I found my dream dress on sale for $199.28 taxes included and the rings were $293 all together and I believe that is the most expensive for the whole wedding. I thought I could have found a more casual white dress but I fell in love with that one and it was way more than I wanted to splurge on but I do not regret it. Also the rings were a bit over budget as well. Again we only had around $1,000 in overall budget, in the end I had to add another $1000 but for what I wanted it has been realistic.

Man our budget is that too! But we are finding that is almost impossible since we have about 200 guests. Fiancé has a big family. How did you manage to keep yours under budget?! Help!

My original thought was to stay under 10k but had to sit down and rethink it after looking at the venues we wanted. We then budgeted 15k and are on track to keep it there.

We had 120 guests invited and only 54 could come. That was where most of the savings came in! Lol yay for semi destination weddings!

Sadly we never had an overall budget. With each vendor, we kind of just decided “is this too much or can we do it?”
If I had to place a number, budget would be no more than $10,000. We are currently at about $8,000, honeymoon not included in this.

We don't have an actual number. In my head, our budget is $2000. I'm just going as inexpensively as possible. If I can find a way to spend less, but still have my image, I'm doing it. For example, I got a new-with-tags Maggie Sottero for $275 instead of $1300. I LOVE my dress and can't wait to wear it, but would never have spent $1300 for it.

I had originally budgeted 25k, but adjusted to 30 after we realized we were not getting away with a guest list smaller than 200. Amazingly, our parents are paying for most which has been the only way this is feasible for us

Our original number was 10k. If we had gone through with the wedding we were considering a year ago, we would have been well over budget. In January when we started actually planning our wedding, we lowered our budget to 8K. We are now 50 days away and it's looking like our grand total is coming in at about 6.5K. I am very happy with the final number, but it took a lot of work to get everything we wanted while maintaining a small budget.
