Wanted sparklers for grand exit but they're illegal...Now what?

kaylarae, on March 21, 2014 at 8:27 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 40

We asked one of the venues we looked at if we could use sparklers for our grand exit and they told us that they were illegal within city limits in Oklahoma! Talk about learning something new... I looked into it on the government site and it's true. Fireworks are illegal within city limits which includes sparklers! So now what? Haha does anyone have any suggestions for an exit? She we just walk out with music playing? What are y'all doing?

Do it and ask for forgiveness later. Honestly i highly doubt any cop will givr somone a ticket for sparklers on their wedding day.

Ummm don't do that. the venue can not let you, it's not about the cops arresting you on your wedding day it's about the venue's liability.

we didn't do an exit. we went to the hotel and hung out in the lobby with everyone until we crashed. but, there are a ton of ideas on pinterest ... start there and check with your venue to see if they have any ideas

Agree with Lilly. Sometimes it's easier to ask for forgiveness rather than permission! Smiley smile

What Kate said. Especially if you are giving a deposit to the venue that doesn't apply to your balance. You could be out.

I hadn't considered the venue itself either. I saw an article the other day (may have been on here) that had 25 unique exits or something like that. I will try to find it, but a lot of them included confetti, sprinkles, or flowers.

No, no, no, don't just do it despite the law. Your venue probably won't even allow you to "just do it" anyway.

Do rose petals, bubbles, confetti, etc. I also like the idea of these things (don't know what they're called - maybe ribbon wands?):

Not a good idea to ask for forgiveness with sparklers. Your guests probably wouldn't appreciate breaking the law for you. You'll totally piss off the venue or the church where you use them (as Kate mentioned, for liability reasons) and for what? Just to get some photos? There are other options. It would be a really shitty thing to do. Have some integrity. Seriously.

The venue doesn't allow confetti but it will be outside so we can see if we could use the earth-friendly kind

ETA: do we have to do something? Can the dj just announce it and we walk through the dance floor and wave to everyone?

Or, bubbles like rusticbride said. Then there is always the traditional bird seed. Here is the article I was talking about earlier: http://blog.theknot.com/2013/08/28/18-creative-exit-toss-ideas/. Some of them are cheesy, but it could give you some ideas.

We had ribbon wands for our recessional, and they are easy to make and look good in photos. We also gave out fun, colorful noisemakers.

Please do not use sparklers if they said no, especially if it is in your contract. You could get your security deposit taken away (if it was refundable) and/or a bill for damages and/or excessive clean up. If it is illegal, do not take any chances especially on your wedding day. It is plenty of other options for a send off, but check your contract or ask the venue for what you are thinking about doing. You can do rice, bird seed, flower petals, confetti, bubbles, streamers, or party horns (you know the ones you use for a birthday party and new years), a few air horns possibly, or some bells. I just coordinated a wedding and we used the party horns! It turned out great, no clean up or staining of any clothes!

Ribbon wands with metallic gold/silver streamers look like sparklers in photos.

Bubbles maybe? I like kirstenMichelle's idea of glow sticks.

if I were you, before I went breaking a rule based on legalities, I'd read the fine print of your agreement backwards and forwards.

to see what was to happen if you were to do something illegal.

but anyway, I like the idea of bubbles and glow sticks myself Smiley smile

Your venue is not going to let you do something illegal on their property. Also, DO NOT ASK FORGIVENESS FOR DOING SOMETHING ILLEGAL! Ignorance does not take away your guilt and you already asked your venue so you don't even have ignorance on your side. And yes, my FGFIL is a cop and he would give you a ticket on your wedding day for doing something that violates a law.

Glow sticks are nice, confetti, lavender, streamers. The list of non-illegal exits is huge!!! Use one of them instead of ending up with a fine, ticket, or something worse.

Definitely don't do sparklers - the are illegal, you are risking your guests getting in trouble and your venue would probably have a fit if you did them

I read something that rainbow sprinkles look amazing in pictures....

I also love the ribbon wands - I know someone on here did them - I really want to do them but I dont think I am going to have enough time to make 160 of them before the wedding

The church we're marrying at doesn't even allow bubbles, let alone sparklers (big no-no because of perpetual drought conditions), confetti, rice, etc. So we'll probably have ribbon wands or something.

Ladies, I think she got the hint. Stop harping on her; she likely understood the first time why not to do it.

I'm getting married in Yosemite so since it's a national park, we can't use anything like confetti, flower petals or rice, so we opted for ribbon and lace wands and/or bubbles. (:

Krystyna, no one is harping. Not everyone reads every comment -- also they are giving her suggestions Smiley smile
