Walking Down The Aisle

Hi everyone!

So this will be my 2nd marriage and my FH's first. My first marriage was at a courthouse so there was no walk down an aisle and no giving away. We originally planned awhile back for a destination elopement but that changed and it will be a full wedding event. Anyway, since I've already been married before, I'm not sure if it really means anything anymore for someone to walk me down and give me away because that ship has sailed. My question is: could or should I still have someone walk me down the aisle or should I just do it alone? Has anyone else walked or plan on walking down the aisle alone? What should I do? Any advice/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Whichever you choose (the standard reply) LOL!

This is a second marriage for both FH and I and this topic crossed my mind. I thought of different ways of doing it and ultimately I’m selecting to walk alone. We don’t have a bridal party so FH will be entering first and on his own as well. Then each of our parents will walk in and then I will walk in last.

I think is all up to you. Doesn’t matter if you done it before a million times. We are now not so much with traditions so make it what you want and what means something to you.

Also, we’re going to skip the “who gives this woman to be married to this man” part. Not because of “property“ reasons since I don’t view it that way. But because my FH spoke with my parents about his desire to marry me prior to proposing. So I feel like that part was already completed intimately between the three of them.

I think you go with what ever you feel best about. If you feel like someone giving you away still means something to you and your family then go for it. Doesn't matter what number your wedding is! And there is nothing wrong with walking yourself down the isle. Do what makes you happy!

You can absolutely have someone walk you down the aisle. Just because this is your 2nd marriage, doesn't make it any less important. You can do anything you want to, it is your day!

Plot twist! You and your FH walk down together. That’s what we are doing. I don’t want all eyes on me and I don’t really have a father/male figure in my life that I feel fits that spot. In all honesty though you can do what you want! The nice thing about your wedding is that you get to do what makes you feel comfortable. I hope you have a beautiful wedding!

My dad is no longer alive so I’m having someone special walk me down. I don’t hve to- I wanted to. The person is someone very special to me.

Well glad to know I'm not the only one who thought about it. I haven't seen any other posts about it so I thought I would ask around. Someone else brought up a good point that all eyes would be on me and I don't think I could handle that alone lol

Good point. Guess I just wanted to see where others' thoughts were at. I'm starting to think maybe I'll have someone walk me down for moral support.

Definitely makes sense. I was thinking of skipping that part too. Never crossed my mind. It's definitely an oldie and I never viewed it as property reasons either.

Thank you! I tend to get nervous so the more I think about it, I feel like I might just have someone walk me to help keep me calm lol

OMG! That's something I've never seen nor heard of but that sounds beautiful! That's definitely different. Love how you started with Plot Twist lol.

I'm sorry to hear that. Either way, I guess having someone walk you is still very special as long as it's special to you. I'm now leaning more towards walking with someone.

True! And you’ll definitely need it! Seeing all my bridesmaids walk out and being there just me! I couldn’t have done it without my dad. I’m so glad I had him there to hold me and tell me to breath lol.

I think the majority of brides on here are 1st timers. So the thought wouldn’t cross their minds.

Awww! Enjoy your spotlight. I don’t mind having all eyes on me... it’s our wedding so that’s going to happen regardless. I’ll probably get a wave of nervousness right before the doors open and then some tears as I walk. But my eyes will be on my FH. So it will be fine.

But then again.... my silly self might do a dance down the aisle and high 5 my guests. No one would be surprised by that at all. Lol!

Very true! I guess it's inevitable for people to stare at me but I will definitely cry like a baby and get jitters. Cry happy tears, of course.
