Waiting on wedding venue

Macahl, on May 4, 2021 at 10:12 AM Posted in Planning 0 6
Hi all, has anyone had any experience of having to wait for the wedding venue allow you your desired date? We decided on our local botanical garden awhile ago and were told to wait until April 1st of this year (2021) before we could book for 2022. We called that day to try and book for Thursday June, 2nd 2022. We were waitlisted because apparently they have to get the okay from the concert manager to give that night to us. I asked how long that can take as we thought we’d have the venue booked early and be able to move forward with booking other important vendors. She told me it can take a while but she’s doing her best. It sounds like we are priority but I’m just not sure until we actually put down a deposit.

Do I just assume we will have that date and move forward with planning? The goal is to not have to crunch to book everything last minute, that’s why we booked so far in advance. Is it possible to book things without an official solidified date for the venue?

I think this is pretty common. Many of the venues we considered (along with many other vendors) would not book an event further than a year out.

That being said, I would be very wary about further planning until you have put down a deposit and signed a contract to secure that date. You could request price quotes from vendors in the meantime, but don’t sign any contracts until you have your venue and date secured.

Thank you! I have no idea what I’m doing haha. They made it seem like we’d be able to book starting April first but seems like they only do that for weekends and I did not expect to be waitlisted. Good idea on getting some quotes in the mean time though!

I wouldn't book anything else until you have the venue secured with a deposit and contract

This is very common. The venue I am booking doesn't allow booking/deposits until 18 months out. Anywhere from 12-18 months out is very common practice. (And I've even seen some venues saying they won't open bookings for 2022 at all until they have resolved all of their Covid-postponed weddings to make sure those couples get priority date selection.)

As others have said, don't book anything else until you have your date set in stone. You can start looking and narrowing down your options in the meantime, but hold off booking.

I second this! I wouldn’t want to potentially lose out on deposits with other vendors if the date doesn’t work out.
