Fiancé and I are having a morning wedding and want to do a waffle bar (among other things) at the reception. Any ladies out there do a waffle bar that can give me some tips and tricks? Thank you!

    ...why is it not "appropriate?"

Jennie because you are not a licensed professional.

I didn't know you had to be a licensed professional to make waffles. We are having a very small intimate wedding.

Self-catered food is never appropriate for weddings, unless you are having less than 10 people, There are too many moving parts, it inevitably creates work for the guests or else there's a lingering mess, there is no standard of safety for the food prepared and most venues will not allow it due to liability issues.

Are you having less than 10 people?

Do NOT make your own waffles. Do NOT self-cater. Hire a professional.

Where will this breakfast reception be held? How many guests?

@Jennie, you can make your guests very very sick by catering your own food. Please hire a caterer to do this.

I'll level with you Jennie. I self catered the desserts for my sisters wedding and it was a literal nightmare. I spent 5 days making the cheesecakes and spent the entire reception checking the display to make sure there was enough. Trust me you do NOT want to be worrying about the food during your wedding. Pay someone else to do the worrying.

    I had a feeling.....

Catering brunch is a bitch. Don't try to do it yourself. Aside from the sickness issue, there is the production, serving, cleaning up issue. And most venues won't let you.

I directed this toward the ladies who have done a waffle bar before. Not to those who felt like talking. Thank you for those who gave me valuable advice. This is my second my time posting on these forums and this is the second time I've gotten rude people judging. Thank you again for those who have helped me. But I think this will be the final time I post.

Jennie we're not judging, we're trying to help you have the best wedding possible.

Waffle bars are a great idea! Self catering of any kind is not.

Nobody is being rude to you. People are explaining why this is a bad idea.

Brunch food is only good while fresh and hot. Hot, crispy bacon is awesome. Cold, greasy bacon is disgusting. Cold waffles are gross. Eggs are a major food poisoning center. I wouldn't self cater any wedding meal, but brunch would honestly be my last choice.

Also, you can't tell people how to post. Or who.

No tips or tricks...but if I were confronted with a waffle bar I would look for three things: whipped cream, nutella, strawberries.

No one is being rude to you. We are actually trying to help you avoid a disaster.

Also, you cannot tell others how to respond to posts.

You stated that this is only the second time that you have posted on "these forums". Your posting history says otherwise...as do your three stars.

    It's a horrible idea. I did mine and I'm a pro.

If you're so great at catering, you should have been able to figure out what to put on a waffle; you'll notice everyone was gung ho until you said you were catering YOUR wedding. People here are not judging you; they're trying to talk you out of a disaster. It will be late, cold, chaotic and possible unsafe. Your venue will want insurance, health inspections and workmans comp.

But hey, you know best. Happy cold eggs and limp bacon to you.
