Vow Writers! i need your help!

For those that did or plan to write your own vows, how long are they? I really need to start mine, I'm just scared that I'm going to start and they'll be way too long once I'm done. I've seen all of the templates and guidelines for what to say, but I just wanted to ask some that have actually done it.

I'm working on mine right now and I've got 2 pages hand written. I'm worried they are too long but I'm still making edits. Once I have finished editing I'll time myself reading them and see how long they actually are.

I wrote my own vows. A lot of websites suggested they be between 150-200 words, which translates to about 2 minutes of speaking. Mine are 196 words lol. I think it is a good length because any longer and guests may feel like it is very long (listening to a speech or anything similar feels longer for the listener than the person doing the talking). I plan to write a letter to my fiance that he will read the day of just because there are so many other things I want to say that didn't make it into the vows.

I have started by writing various thoughts in my phone's notes. We haven't decided on a length, but I'm sure it won't be longer than 2-3 minutes each.

My and husband's vows were each close to 500 words and took a little over 3 minutes to read (each). Many would say that is "too long" but honestly that's what the wedding is all about, so if people don't want to listen to 6 minutes of us making our promises to each other then they shouldn't come to the wedding, hahaha. We did have a very short ceremony... in total it was about 15 minutes long and that included our vows, so it didn't seem like the vows were too long at all... in fact I actually thought it was better to have us speaking a good amount rather than just the officiant talking the entire time.

Many people also told us that hearing our self-written vows were the highlight of the day for them, and that they loved hearing us be so emotional and genuine with each other! People could really feel the love between us and apparently a ton of our guests were crying at hearing our vows haha. I don't think we could have accomplished that in fewer words than we did!

I think there’s really no limit. It’s your wedding and it’s your one chance of letting your friends and family have of listening to you rave about your love. Make it as long or short as you as long as you have the time for it in your wedding schedule.

Mine are 400 words and it took about a 2.5 mins to read. I don't think it matters. I would just want them to be close to my husbands. his only took like 1.5 mins to read. Try to get on the same page as your fiancé is my suggestion. We decided we would have 3 paragraphs. An intro, about him, and my vows.

It took me a really long time to start mine too, I just finished then this weekend but where I started was just think about what makes me happier in our relationship. It got me thinking about all the things love most about FH which I then wrote down and edited form there. Mine are about 2 minutes out loud.

I love to write and when we decided to do our own I was very excited! Then came the actual writing. Lol It felt like it took forever to finally get it to come together but now that it has, I love it! I typed my vows into a Word document and it says there are 436 words. I split it into 8 paragraphs containing 2-4 lines each. I haven't times myself reading it yet but I don't believe it will take more than a couple of minutes.

My advice is just start writing stuff down and see where you end up. If you feel it is too long, then go back and edit it. Maybe some things can be combined or maybe stating something in a different way will make it a little shorter. I also went online and searched for vows just to get an idea of how to word some things. It was very helpful.
