If you JUST got married, then just do a big family reception since that is probably what you're going for ...? the party thing? You don't have to renew vows you just made.

    wait 10, 15, 20, 25+ before actually renewing vows

I don't think I'd have a ceremony AND reception if I already am technically married (so recently)...I would just have a really fun party to let others celebrate with us.

It's not **exactly** a "vow renewal" if you just got married a few months ago. I haven't read the other comments past page one yet. If his family disapproves, so what? That's their right and they can stay home.

Every couple is different and their situation is different. I've done re-enactments, renewals on 1st anniversaries and renewals after many years of marriage, renewals after deployments, renewals after illnesses or affairs. Small renewals with only the wife & husband and large renewals with children and grandchildren present.

I don't see a problem with vow renewals. I have friends that got married at JOP and when they had the money they had a wedding.

I don't see why you don't deserve the opportunity to throw yourselves a huge party, while someone else does, just because you had an urgent need to get the legal part over with sooner than expected. is it self-indulgent? sure - but so are ****% of weddings. embrace it and enjoy celebrating your love for each other!

@SadieLou He's my husband in the eyes of the law, but the religious ceremony, and being able to share the union with all my family and friends, is important to me. And yes...the dress is a part of it. Judge all you want.

THERE IS A DIFFERENCE between making a commitment in front of a few strangers, and making a commitment in front on your entire families and friends and church. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE between saying something is "true" and swearing on the Bible that it is true. And it sure is fun to spoil the heck out of my fam and friends, so thats what Im going to do, for one single day, spoil them rotten! Every other day of my life I will peruse the thrift stores, second hand shops, pinch every penny, make ends meet, but just once i want to live like its 1836, just once
