Viewing venues? What do you say?

Bella, on August 18, 2019 at 9:56 AM Posted in Planning 0 11
So we're going venue looking in 2 weeks. Is there any specific questions I need to ask?

We are going to view our 3 we narrowed it down to. My fiance has a favorite(which I'm saving for last) but I am set on going to view all 3 before I make the decision. Do places try to get you to make a decision right then and there? What do I say? Like I don't wanna rudely just be like we'll think about it we have other places we are going to view? Lol. How do you nicely say that?

Most places will ask like “have you been looking around at other venues?” And “how many venues have you looked at” stuff like that. I would always be honest and say we have a couple more to look at before we make a decision we’re comfortable with.
I always asked about bathrooms, room blocks, open bar, and plated service because those are all things we want. I also asked if they had preferred vendors and if we really liked the place I asked for and estimated cost list. I also asked about parking (if they had valet) and how a ceremony/reception typically goes. I also took as many pictures as I could!!! Have fun!!

I didn’t feel any pressure at my tours. There is never anything wrong with saying we’re going to think about it and let you know our decision. My venue gave me two weeks to let them know, but the other venue didn’t put any deadline on it, just know they’ll book it if they don’t hear from you.

We're planning on making a decision after we view the 3rd one. Probably that day.

We looked at about 5 venues. Each one asked what day we thought we would want to get married and gave us a grace period of 7 days that they would hold that date for us in case we decided we would go with them. There was no pressure, and no one asked for money down until we made our decision and signed a contract.

Ask what their inclement weather policies are- a friend of mine learned that lesson the hard way on her wedding day.

Send me your email and I’ll send you my venue questionnaire I made for when I toured venues. It covers pretty much everything you want to know and helped us compare our venues to make our final decision. It was nice to see all the information side by side along with our pictures to make the most informed decision.

No one expects you to make an on the spot decision and vendors will assume you’re looking at other places so I wouldn’t worry about that.
First you need to decide what you want and need in a venue (ie do you want buffet or plated? Alcohol? Etc) then make sure they have one of your preferred dates. When you’re there find out everything that’s included, make sure there’s a person day of supervising, how early can your vendors set up? How much to upgrade the bar or add additional hours? Is there a place for the ceremony if you want to do it there? Can it accommodate your guest count? How many restrooms? (And look at them)
I googled and looked up on pintrist “questions to ask potential venues” I suggest you do that as well! Keep notes of each place and compare later. We saw about 7 and took over a month and a ton of back and forth emails to decide. Good luck!
