Our wedding is in feb of 2021 and we just booked this past weekend! We toured venues for a couple months and all said dates were wide open when we toured, however, after a month or so some of the venues were inquiring because people were starting to look at our month. The venue we chose said she just started booking a bunch of weddings for 2021 already.

I think it honestly depends on your location (I’m Southern California so every weekend is packed with a wedding somewhere) and your date since I’m sure peak season (June, summer) are always in hot demand. I’m a planner, so booking the venue and having the date set has put me at ease and I feel good knowing that I’m locked in somewhere already.

I booked at 18 months. But it’s always nice to get lower rates by booking in 2019.

Do some research on the venue! The wedding venue that we looked into we had to wait until September the 1st until the 2021 dates would open. We went ahead and booked the venue as soon as dates open because when you have the venue booked then you have an official date and you know what you can and cannot have at that particular venue which also aids in your planning process.

The venue is also one of the most expensive chunks of the planning process and you will need a down payment/make monthly payments. Booking two years in advance we were able to make our payments a little bit smaller than we would have if we waited a year out.

Weigh your options, what works best for your budget, and ask lots of questions before making a final decision.

I wish you luck with your search! ☺️

Our wedding is in 1.5 years (April 2021) and we are just about to book our venue. But I started planning like 2 years out so I say go for it! Just make sure you do a lot of research and are sure about the location and guest count

We booked about a year out, but one of the venues we toured but didn't choose already had about half the Saturdays in October booked over a year in advance. If you're looking at a popular venue at a popular time, 2 years really isn't as crazy as it sounds.

I had originally booked a venue for November 2020 wedding in September 2018. When we talked to them they were starting to fill up for early 2020, but our date was still available. Fast forward to April 2019 and I find out my original venue had done some construction projects on the property without telling us and I ended up absolutely hating. After getting our deposit back we booked with another venue in May. They were fully booked up until the weekend before our date. So, long story short, 19 months out and we just barley got our date.

We booked our venue Nov. 2018 and our wedding is next October so almost 2 yrs in advance. I started early because I was so excited and I wanted to have enough time to see different venues. Also, I wanted to make sure I book the date that I wanted. I don't think it's ever too early to at least start looking.

We booked 9 months in advance (relatively short engagement) but the venue already had very limited availability for weekends. If you have your heart set on a specific date and venue, earlier is better than later. Another question to ask is whether this locks you in for their current pricing (if they raise the cost annually).

Hey just looking through your discussions ☺️ But since we have the same wedding date I figured I would chime in, we actually already picked out our venue and have the contract because I don’t want to lose the date or the venue. I came to realize that venues book quick and with the holidays coming up they will be all booked for 2021 by March. So get in there early girl. 😊
