Venue requires Insurance

Michelle, on January 20, 2016 at 7:44 AM Posted in Planning 0 15

Anyone come across a venue that requires general liability insurance to use their facility?

If so, did you go with them or not? And why? Smiley smile

Thanks ladies

Almost every venue we looked at does. You either pay a fee to get it through them or you get it through your home insurance company.

My venue required it also, I think it's a common thing now. We did it through our home insurance for $60.

We did briefly, but passed because they also charged to use tables, chairs, etc.

It was a couple of hundred dollars, through my parents' insurance agent, since they hosted/issued invitations. It was dependent on the number of guests, and length of the event, and if alcohol was served. The venue had a very detailed contract. It seemed as if we were liable for damages done by our guests. The venue was a ballroom in a historic hotel, so any possible repairs would have been very costly. And with 225 guests, and 5 hours of open bar, it was worth every penny.

AAA DOES provide wedding insurance if you're a member but ONLY for Dry Weddings. My friend is my insurance agent there and we were just discussing this the other day.

Our wedding will be at at art gallery and due to the fact that we want alcohol, we needed to purchase $1.5 million in liability insurance (drunk people and expensive art don't mix). for $175, we are now fully covered in case something happens. Totally worth it to me. I wouldn't eliminate a good venue option based on needing insurance. It protects the venue and you.

I wouldn't be surprised if it does. My mom's friend broke her arm at her own daughter's wedding by tripping over something, so stuff happens.

My venue will not accept wedsafe actually. But they gave me a list of other insurance vendors, or said anyone else, just not wedsafe. Not i'm curious to know why....

It's pretty standard, and not expensive. They will want all your vendors to submit certs of insurance too.

Mine did. It was only about $95. I believe its fairly common. There are a few places you can chose from online.

Our venue requires insurance. Plus, it's a good idea to have it if you're having an open bar.

We got $1 million in coverage for only $175 from Wedsafe.

Our venue doesn't require it and until now hadn't really thought about it. What exactly does it cover?
