Venue Renovation Worries

Melissa, on February 7, 2018 at 8:16 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 4
Hello, everybody! I recently put a deposit down for my wedding date at the Parkshore Resort in Traverse City, MI. I have been to this venue many different times, and it is my absolute dream venue. It is right on Lake Michigan, and the ceremony is on the beach, with the reception area above the beach in a permanent tented structure.

They will be having renovations over the next year on their permanent outdoor tent structure. They are renovating it to have a real wooden roof. These renovations will be done by the time we get married. The issue is that I absolutely love their current tented structure.

I am freaking out. Should I try to get my deposit back, or should I just trust that the renovations will turn out beautifully?

I suppose it wouldn't hurt to ask to see their plans and see if they have any 3D pictures or models drawn up that you could see. I don't think that it would make a huge difference since you have stated that it's you're dream venue. I would trust the renovations.
Good luck! I hope everything turns out great.

I would definitly ask to see the draw ups for the remodel. If it's your dream venue then I would trust them.
We booked our wedding venue as it was still under construction. We met with the owners and builders during our venue tour and they reassured us that it will be spectular and ready by our 2019 wedding, and sure enough it is more than 80% complete as of today and it is better than we ever could have imagined.

If it's such a great venue, and I'm sure it is, I'd trust that they are have chosen a lovely wooden structure for the roof. I do agree about asking to see if they have any renderings that you can look at.

Bonus, if it rains, a wood roof will be far better than a tented roof.

I'm with the PPs, contact them and see if you can get a preview of how things will look after the renovations. Did you know about the renovations before you made the deposit? Having a permanent roof on their outdoor structure seems great, and you have so much time until your wedding you won't need to worry about them being done in time. I would certainly ask for some insight but I would not be worrying, I bet this will be a great improvement and won't change the character of the space you fell in love with.
