Venue Regret

Lizbeth, on March 3, 2019 at 10:42 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 28
I've learned that dress regret is a thing but has anyone ever had venue regret?

I did but luckily I realized this early enough that i could switch my venue to the company’s sister venue site which was bigger and better fitted for what I wanted when I initially declined it due to cost. I’m always looking to save in cost but if you are going to regret it throughout the process it may be better to just spend the extra money to be happy if you can afford it.. that’s why I’m constantly looking at things like is it a must, a like but not needed, or something that We can live without it and not even care To put the money where it matters to us

Luckily they had a sister venue! I'm happy for you!
We decided in January that after 5 years engaged we should finally get married, we decided on July.
We gave ourselves the month of January to find a location. We were looking for a location we can have both ceremony and reception.
We picked one but I feel like we settled. After thinking about it lately I feel like It doesn't have a wedding feel. It's a hall but inside a sports complex. Im starting to think we made a mistake

I've apologized to FH and he reaction is basically. Meh...cant do anything about it now. We both loved the other venue so much but parental pressure and convenience wore me down.

I've come to realize pressure is such a common thing in wedding planning. So much pressure from others.
We also chose ours due to financial convenience.

What are your decor ideas? I'm trying to jazz it up with some decor to make it feel more of a wedding

I definitely don’t have venue regret. The only thing I had to give up was a view of the mountains. Otherwise our venue has it all and then some!
If FH had his way, we would have some serious regrets. He wanted to book the first venue we toured. I had bad feelings before we even went but FH was sooo excited. He would have booked right off.
i made him be patient and I looked feverishly and found our current venue. So in love.
I do have serious dress regret and am scrambling to come up with money for another dress in time.

This venue looks really nice! Wood floors and chandeliers. What it needs are nice linens and chairs. Lower the lighting so it looks like a ballroom, rather than a sporting event. I think you can make this venue beautiful if you can invest in decorations. It comes down to which would be more worthwhile... the cost of decorating this venue or the loss of the deposit if you decide to go elsewhere.

I don’t have venue regret because I love where we are getting married - but I do wish we could have done my first choice, but we couldn’t do it with budget constraints.

I think you can do a lot with the venue that you chose. The space is great and I love the ceremony setup!

We can't afford to loose on the deposit so we have hired a decorator to help us set up the sweetheart table area and a back drop for the ceremony area...
I sometimes have a hard time seeing things come together before it gets done. I'm hoping to make the atmosphere feel elegant and intimate

    Thank you,
My only concern with the ceremony space is that guests will already see the reception set up right away.
I also wanted to take pictures with my FH by the ceremony space since we hired a decorator to create a floral backdrop for us but since it's all in the same space I am wondering how can I do that during cocktail hour without guests seeing us.

Could you and your FH consider doing a “first look” shoot and then squeeze some pictures in with your backdrop before before the actual ceremony??

Can the venue set up the tables differently to give more of a divide? If so, maybe you could use room dividers to break up the space? Several event rental company’s here have those and there are some beautiful options.

We thought of the first look but then I changed my mind, I wanted to build up the anticipation.
I might have to reconsider that though.
I thought of dividers but didn't know that even rentals carried those. That would work.

Maybe I get get one to block off the ceremony area once the reception ie done, so FH and I can sneak back there without guests seeing us. (Theres an exit door near there)

Yes, for our local reception we had venue regret. It was spectacular but we changed our theme *after* we booked it. It would have been so much easier and cheaper to decorate a venue that matched our theme better. Everything worked out beautifully but it may have been worth losing the $1K deposit...

This looks like a reception venue to me! try to tie in some personal touches (photos of the couple, photo collages for when you walk in etc ) to make it more personal and romantic Smiley smile

Just take the photos with the backdrop while your guests have their cocktail hour! I don't think its that big of a deal. Some people might enjoy seeing you dove eyed during photos too Smiley smile

Sorry I thought I quoted you earlier. We plan on taking some pictures before the wedding to put around the entrance or sign in table
