Venue ideas for a small reception (not a ceremony)?

Kaylee, on December 28, 2019 at 4:44 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7

Hello all!

My fiance and I will be eloping in Europe, then coming back home to Colorado and having a small reception with 40-50 people. With such a small party size, I'm hoping to avoid booking a traditional venue that will cost us an insane amount of money. We're trying to be as cheap as possible (without being cheesy) since it's not a ceremony!

Has anyone done anything like this, or do you have any ideas? Would it be cheaper to book a venue for a "party" like this or will they still charge crazy wedding prices?

We're having about the same number of people and we are having ours in a private room in a restaurant.

Friends of mine did a fire house banquet hall after having their wedding on the opposite coast and it was nice. They had a similar reception for anyone who couldn’t travel for the actual wedding.

Nice! Out of curiosity, what was the second reception like? Was it very low key or did they still do all the traditions (wear the wedding dress, cut the cake, first dance, etc.)?

That does seem like a great option, since most restaurants don't require an extra fee... you just have to use their food, which can be pricey. What type of restaurant are you doing yours at?

It was very low key, felt like a catered college graduation party. Casual dress, there was a bartender, buffet luncheon feel. They had a slideshow of wedding photos so they could relive it and I think they danced to their first dance song again. No parent dances since her family wasn’t there. It was small but so nice to get together. I had the pleasure of attending both so it was nice that the day was filled with everyone sharing memories of the wedding to relive it.

It's a seafood, southern natural food place. We went twice then decided then went back a third time to try out our menu food.

I tried to attach photos but it didn't work. It has a rustic look to it.
