Venue Gratuity...

Nicole, on January 1, 2020 at 8:08 PM Posted in Planning 0 8
My FH and I were trying to figure out gratuity for each vendor. We were stumped when it comes to our venue. Do we tip the ceremony/reception venue? They are charging us $10,000 to rent the venue for 10 hours. We have access to the entire property, however it doesn’t include catering, chairs for guests during the ceremony, decor etc. Part of me says don’t tip because they are charging $10K already. The other part of me says tip so I don’t look like a jerk! Thoughts?

Some places add the gratuity into the cost! Maybe ask if it’s included?

Is the venue providing any "services"? Gratuities are usually on the service. If the venue includes a coordinator or staff that will be doing set-up/clean-up etc., I'd provide the gratuity based on the cost of those services. The total charges for daughter's reception venue (which included food, full premium open bar, furnishings, staff, etc.) were about $20,000. In total, in addition to the required 20% service charge, we paid about $1,000 in cash gratuities for the bartenders ($100 each), valets ($50 each), bridal assistant ($100), wait staff ($400 to be distributed by the venue event coordinator), and the event coordinator ($200).

If you are JUST renting a space, I don't think gratuities are required.

Usually only service positions would be tipped. (DJ, bar, and catering) Also, most places will list a service/gratuity charge somewhere, so maybe just ask

Nope. Only thing they are providing is the property, a bridal suite to get dressed, and a lounge area for the guys. Anything that needs decorated...we do ourselves. We also have to clean up. My caterer is providing bartenders, wait staff, chefs.

I appreciate all of your input. I will double check with the venue to see if there’s any type of gratuity already included.

Don't tip the VENUE. tip the people who are working for you. servers, bartenders, photographer, dj, maitre'd, decorators.

Double-check to be sure it is not already included.
