Venue double booked! (kind of)

Andrea M, on June 14, 2014 at 6:03 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

Hey all, this is my first post on here but I have been trolling through these forums for a couple months now. Here is my issue: my venue has been terrible, I mean down right ridiculous, with their communication- the banquet manager and her assistant manager both. I have emailed and called them both countless times and I would guess maybe 10% of the time, I get a response. That was driving me crazy and I looked for a new venue a few weeks back but gave up. NOW she tells me that there is another function going on in the clubhouse which I had booked on our wedding day (9/27/14). The function is from 2-6pm; our wedding is at 4. Granted, we are doing an outdoor ceremony and cocktail hour but I amstill very displeased. I have started looked for a new venue and have some appointments this week to view a couple. Do y'all think I'm being ridiculous or reasonable? Advice?

Did they give you time slots when you booked your venue, or just a day? It's always a good idea to ask if they will have other events at the venue on the same day and to clarify the exact time the venue will be available to you. I don't think you are being unreasonable. I would be freaking out if my venue didn't respond to me.

I don't think you are being ridiculous or unreasonable at all. I think I would be looking for new venues at this point too. What a nightmare. So sorry you are having to deal with this.

Thanks guys :o) When I paid the deposit (3/6 of this year), the manager told me I was the only event that day and that I'd have free run of the entire clubhouse for the entire day. Then last night she tells me this other person booked her event in Feb. What a joke. I'm beyond frustrated. I also have yet to get a contract that is correct from them. I'm sad too, because the venue was really beautiful and fit my style perfectly. But such is life! I haven't told them that I plan to go with another venue just yet. I'm not quite sure how that conversation will go. But anywho, on to bigger and better (and more expensive) things! Ha!

If for some reason you cannot book another venue use it as an excuse to lower the rental fee

Wow, there is no excuse for their poor business habits. You should not have to deal with another event on the same day. I would definitely look for another place dear. That was wrong of them. Planning a wedding is hard as it is, and you do not need extra stress.

If they booked it in February, why are you just hearing about it now? I would demand a huge discount and if not, go elsewhere and make sure you get all your money back. If this is how they act now, imagine how it will be later. You don't need that stress.

Ask for your deposit back (based on them double-booking) and find another venue.

Honestly, I would throw the biggest bridezilla hissy - complete with crying and makeup rolling down my face to see if they would give me the venue for free - but probably on another date.

The very fist place we looked into we thought about booking...until I saw the massive Facebook rant. Apparently, this particular venue had some young kid doing the bookings via an online thing (like you book cabins). Well she double booked almost everyone's wedding last summer. The girl that threw the biggest fit got the venue for free and she went to the news and everything. I told my FH that if any venue screwed us like that, I would become a bridezilla. lol!
