It depends on how far out your venue will accept bookings. If you find a venue that you love and they accept bookings and have your date available, then I say now. Can't hurt to hold your venue early. Just be sure it's the venue you really want. We thought we loved our 1st one and ended up hating it and lost our deposit to go to another venue. Best decision we made because our venue was amazing but still we lost money. We put ours down a year in advance.

If you love it book it - sometimes they lock in pricing so if you do it in 2016 you will get 2016 pricing, wait until 2017 and the pricing may go up.

I say do it ASAP. I've seen in here so many times you don't have a date till you have a venue, if they'll let you book now go for it!

Once you find your venue and date, you should book it. You don't want to loose that spot/date!

What they all said. If you're sure you can commit and not have venue regret, grab it now before someone else does.

If you pick and date and venue, you will usually have to secure that date by putting down a deposit. No deposit, no secured date...

I booked my venue 18 mos in advance - if it's in the budget, and it is where you can see yourself getting married, throw that deposit down !

The venue manager will let you know when deposits are due. Our first one was due the day that we decided to sign. Others were about 3-4 months apart.

Make sure you have a signed contract and that you read over every word. Staff changes, company changes, emergencies, etc. can happen between now and your wedding and you don't want to be posting a "help!!! my venue says I never had a contract and won't honor my date for my wedding 14 days from now!!!!" thread.

It typically depends on the venue and how far out they book. We booked ours last month, just over 2 years out. Just make sure it's one you really love. We looked at several different venues, even though we loved the second one we looked at. We just wanted to make sure that one was really it. Also, like others said, you don't have a date until you book your venue. So if you have your heart set on that date, I would start looking now. Otherwise, the venue you choose may already have it booked.

Some venues will take a very early deposit, some have frames, but if you have found some that you already know you love I would lock them down! Venue dates can go quickly, especially in the Spring & Summer time!

Hi Andrea, congrats and welcome to WW! Make sure to upload a picture for your avatar (instead of the default icons) so that we can get to know you and tell you apart from all the other posters. You can do this on a desktop computer or a mobile browser (just not on the app) under My Settings and Profile and Privacy Settings.

If you know you want that venue and can afford it with your budget - then go ahead and put the deposit down!! I booked my venue 14 months is advance and all of September and half of October was already fully booked up!

Like others have said, it depends on the venue. FH and I looked at several other locations before deciding on our's - we got engaged in September of 2015 and some venues were booked through 2016, into 2017. Our venue specifically needed a deposit once the contract was signed and that basically secured our date.

It was the same situation with our church, everything was booked and they could not guarantee the date until we put a deposit down.

I checked out the venue we will be using on Thursday FH is out of town for work so I had to facetime him in on the appointment. We will be going over the contract and menu options and paying the deposit in about 2 weeks. The vendor has that whole month free so Im not worried about the date since we are looking so far in advance. We are flexible with the April dates so if for some reason the date we have talked about is taken we have more to choose from. We are also getting the 2016 pricing which is a huge PLUS

It depends on your venue. Most require them at time of contract. Luckily my FH works for the company and we signed our contract but aren't being made to do a deposit until it's a year out.

@Fallbride That's the date they picked so that is their wedding date, that's how they know. I'm sure they will find a venue that still has that date available 2 years from now. Simple question requires simple answers. SMH

ASAP! Some places place courtesy holds for a week or 2 (or more) so ask if they offer that too!
