Venue costs are ridiculous!

Ariauna, on May 23, 2018 at 8:13 PM Posted in Planning 0 16
I really do need help.. I dont have the money to spend thousands of dollars on a venue and unfortunately I don't have any friends or family with a yard or business big enough to accommodate my HUGE family. Does anyone have ideas or suggestions on a venue that can accommodate up to 100 people AND not cost over $1000. If it's a little over that I can live but I am on a strict budget. My fiance and I are in KY. We dont mind going to to one of the near by states either. I am a DIY bride.. Am I being unrealistic?

You could try a hotel venue? Most of hotels will just set a food and beverage minimum so that eliminates rental.

Do you have an overall budget?

The hotels here are pretty pricey and some are hard to get to. However, I loved at a few bed and breakfasts or some lodges but most require you to rent out a set amount of rooms...

Oh Yeah budget! Ha, almost forgot. Trying to keep it at or under $5000 but that isnt completely set in stone.

I think if you have a $5k budget than even $1k for venue only is going to be too much unless you're just having a cake and punch wedding. I don't see how you can feed 100 guests plus all your other costs like photographer, DJ, flowers, invitations, attire, licensing, etc.

Luckily I have most other costs covered. I have a photographer friend, another friend doing the music, flowers I am doing myself along with most other decor, invitations myself, my mom doing the food and cake.

I would strongly advise against self catering your wedding. It's a terrible idea for a lot of reasons. If you search self catering you'll see why.

I'm in GA and we got our venue for $1100. Depending on where you live it is feasible to get something within budget. Look at local parks and rec centers.

Please no self catering, it is a bad idea and you will get a lot of pushback from WW folks.

Lots of VFW's, Legion Halls and KC Halls are affordable.

Most places won't let you bring homemade food, plus shopping, prepping, cooing, storing and transporting food for 100 people will cost way more than you think.

Look into BBQ, Italian or Mexican food for catering, or postpone your wedding until you can afford to host properly.

Im in the same boat as you hun. My suggestion is to check city venues like parks or civic centers, etc. My local places have 3 or 4 to choose from that would be right around maybe a little under 1000 if you rent it 2 nights for wedding and RD
Down side is they tend to have stricter decorating rules.

Firehouse halls, VFW Halls, some beach clubhouses, American Legion Halls, Knights of Columbus halls have small rental fees (abiut $500-1000)! If you do buffet style Italian catering you should be able to stay in budget! This is what our family did for our engagement party and it was a hit!

Try googling clubhouses, and knight of Columbus halls or shrine clubs. They all cost under 1000 were I am.

Try considering having a wedding on any day other than a Saturday, that is always the most expensive day. Also, you can look into off-season dates!

I'm having that same issue also. I'm a DIY bride too. So right now, my hardest challenge is finding the right venue that won't cost too much. So far, the rec centers seem like the best idea. Depending on where you live, you can try the courthouse. I know where I live, a few of the courthouses in surrounding counties, even in my county, have the event room and such where you can have a wedding ceremony and reception.

Have you used Wedding Wire or The Knot to search? You can usually filter by price. A public park is another option, or an open space/natural area that is state or county owned? Prices are ALL over the place, I looked at about 30 venues priced from $800-$12,000. Another option would be a restaurant or brewery or winery you could rent out and purchase food or liquor through, they usually are more affordable.

Hi Ariauna! Have you thought about the local community or recreation centers? These are great venues and are usually more affordable. Depending on the area you can sometimes find spaces that accommodate more people and have a few amenities.
