Venue Closing!!!

Jaimie, on May 14, 2021 at 4:21 PM Posted in Planning 0 4
4 months out and I get the call this week that my venue is closing it's door at the end of this month! *instant ugly crying* Fiancé and I just started to get back in groove of wedding planning, and crossing things off our list, annnd this. We have a tour setup with a potential new venue, for the same date as planned! So we're hopeful we can lock it in, and get super lucky there. BUT I AM TERRIFIED, old venue said a full refund will be sent in form of check via mail in about 2 weeks. We were about 80% paid off. Called coordinator back to see if I can just come by and pick up a check sooner. Not doable, since the department doing the refunds is based out of Springfield IL (I'm in Chicago area). She gave me her GMs email address to see if it can be expedited, haven't gotten a response back. I'm hoping for everything to be honest and okay. But I can't help but to have this gut wrenching feeling we might be having a huge loss on our hands and not be able to move forward with the wedding we imagined 😢😭.

Anyone else been through this, and have some promising words?!?!?

I'm sorry this happened to you. Mine cancelled a year out. We were moved from October 2020 to October 2021 and then cancelled on in November 2020. I was devasted because I loved the venue and I am kinda bummed as I feel like I'm "settling" at another place. However, I'm finding joy in what I can and am still grateful that things are looking up for October 2021. It won't be how you envisioned it but it will be one to look back on and say "see honey? we got through it" and quite a story if you have kids too.

If you have out of state guests, notify them immediately before they buy plane tickets till you can confirm your date. check to see what dates your vendors are available if you have to move dates around (cake, flowers, etc). I hope everything goes well for you!

Oh my goodness - I'm so sorry Jaimie!!

I totally understand your nerves, but so far it sounds like your old venue is being communicative! Good luck with your new venue tour and I hope you can lock down a new place for your same date!! Smiley heart

Mine cancelled 2 months before out big wedding and sent a full refund to my debit card within a week. We ended up postponing our big wedding to October 2021 because it would've been sooo hard to literally start from scratch while having only 2 months to plan. & it sucks because our original venue was pretty much all inclusive, but now my husband and I decided that we don't want anything nearly as big as we originally planned since we still legally got married during the pandemic. At least you still have a few months! Goodluck

    Hi there!

First and foremost Iam SO sorry this happened to you! I have not personally experienced this - and hope not to (getting married 10-2-2021) However there is a light at the end of the tunnel! The coordinator at my venue had a devasted bride call her due to her venue cancelling 2 weeks before her big day!!!! (I couldn't even imagine) my coordinator was able to quickly accommodate her on her date (luckily the venue was available on her date). She managed to throw together a wonderful extremely last-minute wedding.

My venue is at an old historic tavern in a newly renovated ballroom on the second floor. The bottom half is a fully operational restaurant. My suggestion would be to look into restaurant type venues. Restaurant type venues seem extremely flexible and accommodating with these types of sitiuations. They can even be WAY cheaper than your traditional wedding "hall" or venue, and be absolutely beautiful!

You do have a bit more time than this bride had so there are most definitely options!

    Good luck to you!
