Venue Change

Debbie, on October 30, 2019 at 4:20 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 21
I am venting and need some advice!
Since our wedding guest count has changed. I have been looking for a new venue to have our wedding ceremony and reception. We already placed our $400 deposit with the chapel we originally wanted. I was aware that the deposit is non-refundable. So I reached out to the wedding coordinator to see if changing the date to have a bridal shower there on a different date. She responded back to me and said, "Unfortunately, I cannot transfer your deposit to a different date, but you are more than welcome to use the deposit for a different event on that date."Our wedding date that we reserved there is for October 24, 2020, a whole year from today, and also since it is October, I felt that it would not be hard to be re-booked if that is what their main concern is.

Did anyone else lose a deposit on any rentals or venues?
Thank you,Debbie

I guess the positive is that it's $400 vs $4,000 (or some super large deposit). Maybe you could ask her if she could move it if you did all the work to find another bride for that date?

That's frustrating, I don't understand why they wouldn't let you move the deposit to a different date. We just recently moved our date from May to February and I emailed the venue about it and the owner said "tell me what date you need and we'll get it changed!". So thankful for that. Is this venue too small for your new guest count? If you don't want to lose your deposit, maybe you could set up tents outside for more seating?

Yes! Very true! I just hate to lose any kind of money since my fiance and I are paying for our wedding. I did respond with asking if we could even move it to a Sunday for my bridal shower. Hopefully she can work something out for me, I just cannot understand it since it is a year notice!

Good idea! Could you have your bridal shower on a day not on a Sunday? If not, maybe you know a friend needing a venue for a christening or something else?

I am so glad it worked out for you, wish my situation worked out that way! Ugh Smiley cry the chapel can only accommodate 72 guests sitting side by side and the reception space next door can fit up to 90. My other concerns that I realized is the SMALL parking lot than can only fit up to 12 cars! Also, this is not a big deal to me, but it is a non-smoking facility even outdoors. I do not smoke, but I know there are some family members on both side do. Unfortunately, I made a poor decision blinded by the beauty of the chapel. I am so upset with myself. Smiley cry

Well, I would like to have it on a Sunday if not a Saturday? I would even be happy with a Friday evening when people get off work. Whatever I can use that deposit towards, I will be happy with!
I did not even think about asking a friend if they need a venue to replace my date. I wonder if the coordinator would even allow that since she will not even allow me to change the date for a bridal shower.

I don't understand what the situation with not transferring your deposit to a different date. It makes no sense to me but I went through the same thing. Our deposit was over $1k for a previous venue but I felt so strongly about not using that venue anymore. It was eating me up inside. Although we lost the deposit, I still feel better about being at a venue that I really wanted because I knew it would have shown in my face if I settled.

Wow!!! I hate that for you, but I’m glad you went with your heart. I really hate that they can’t switch it for me. This venue is really small and is not busy every weekend, so I don’t see why it would not be possible. I would not even mind having a bridal shower on a Friday evening or Sunday afternoon, just to save that deposit. My fiancé and I are paying for this wedding and it’s just too much money for us to lose on top of us saving for a house as well.

I wanted to share this to show that this is a very small venue with less than 100 likes on their Facebook page, with just 2 reviews, and a few (like 3) pictures of weddings that have been there. That to me, shows that they are not a booked up facility. Not to mention they offered a bridal shower give away worth $300, which is less than the $400 deposit we gave them!! This lady has been nothing but nice to me and still is being nice, but I’m just so mind blown that they can’t seem to make some kind of arrangement for me.

Yea I totally get it. That's a lot of pressure and stress to keep things in order when you're losing out on money.

That's very upsetting. I don't understand why they can't move the deposit to another date?! Some places are very strict about that policy even with plenty of notice. Great idea to see if you know anyone that might need the venue for the date you originally booked. I hope they can help you come to a solution!

$400 is way better than losing thousands of dollars. The only deposit I lost was through a makeup artist I had booked and hated the trial. I was fine with it because it wasn't that much money. $400 is still a lot to just throw out essentially. If they won't budge at all with transferring, you might have to cut your losses unless you would like to move you wedding date back and use this current venue for like a bridal shower.

Yes, I’ve been waiting on a call back to see if that would be an option. I think my plan now is to just push my wedding back 2 weeks that way I can have my bridal shower there.

That’s annoying, I feel like once venues or rentals have your money that’s it. They try and get you to book with them and the second you do it’s like oh I have your money so now I tell you how it’s going to go 🙄

RIGHT?! That is exactly how I feel right now as the coordinator and I have been going back and forth with the "options" I have to use that deposit for.

We looked at this exact same venue. It is very small. We wanted something that had a more open space. We especially needed room for a dance floor.
