Venue Booked! How far in advance did your venues let you book?

therightLane, on November 1, 2015 at 2:51 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

We found our venue!!! My FH, mom, FMIL, and I went to the Asheville area this weekend to look at venues. We had several tours booked, but after seeing our venue we were sold. We did go to see another venue, but right away the planner said that you could only book 365 days out and there is a chance that you could get beat out by a club member. How far in advance did you let your wedding venue let you book? And how did that play into your decision?

Here is the venue that we chose. Sawyer Family Farmstead in Glenville, NC. It was very intimate and the family puts a lot of love into all of the weddings they plan.

Here is the event barn for the reception. All of the doors on the left and the right slide open to a covered and non-covered patio.

I really like the venue you chose! We booked outs about 13 months ahead of our wedding but j have had friends do it 8 months out. Honestly it sounds like that other place might have been awful to work with if they wouldn't let you book over a year out and gave you no guarantees.

We toured something like 15-16 months out. Ours will only write contracts six months in advance. But, they will not give our date away to anyone else. If someone wants our date, they will confirm that we still want it, if not, they'll allow the other party to be "penciled in" - just like we were. No chance if us giving it up.

I thought that was so unusual how nonchalant they were about it. I understand being about to book 18 months out, but what would happen if I waited a year, then didn't get it. I would be without a venue during peak season. Kimi, that's great they were able to hold your date for you.

We booked ours almost 2 years out! And the first date we wanted was already taken.. so we made a decision pretty quickly after that!

So lovely! We booked our last December, so 20 months in advance, and there were already other bookings that month and later than ours!

That's pretty typical for clubs (with members), public sites like parks, (even Central park) and churches. Banquet venues and restaurants, not so much.

Really lovely venue! We are doing a destination wedding, so we had ours booked 10 months out. But places that we were looking at (before we decided the DW) wanted us to book in April/May for a May 2016 wedding. A year is definitely not unusual, but to pass along the date to a club member sounds ridiculous. Sounds like you went with the right place!

We booked ours about 18 months out! There were also other brides that booked farther out than we did. I booked most vendors before our year mark. I would be nervous about only 365 days out and also the club member comment. It makes me feel as if their members have priority. It would worry me all through the process when trying to communicate with them. But, I'm a very anxious person!

Miranda, I get very anxious too. As soon as my mom and FMIL heard the 365 days out thing they said that isn't going to work for her. The only thing holding us back from our venue was the lack of rooming options, but after driving around and talking again with the planner we realized there are a lot of options other than hotels in the area.

We booked two years out -- and we got the last Saturday in May that was available to be booked. We don't live in a very big city (pop. 200,000) but I can't imagine only having a year engagement when we booked a lot of our 'big' vendors over 18 months out.

We booked a year and a half out. Some venues won't let you book more than a year out unfortunately.

We booked 13 months out. The venue did not have a cap on how far you could book out. SO many weddings were already booked around ours. We jumped on it!
