Here are some things I've learned from my own venue search! We are also using an upscale hotel as our venue.

1. Ask about any future construction/renovation plans

2. They may be willing to include extra perks that they have control over. Be sure to ask if there are any discounted spa rates for guests of your wedding

3. Ask about hotel rooms/upgrades for the new couple, parents of the bride, and parents of the groom

4. The venue may be willing to provide complimentary food and drinks for the bridal party while you get dressed for the wedding

5. Ask if they could have any other events on the same day as yours. If they might, find out their plan for handling two large events, timing, etc

6. Double check the contract for the set up time. Make sure it is early enough to allow for ample time for decor setup and pictures.

Oh and make sure that your contract guarantees you the 2015 food and beverage prices. They will most likely increase over the next year. Also don't forget to calculate tax and gratuity into the final cost. Our venue adds an automatic 24% service charge to the food and beverage cost and I think that is pretty standard among upper end hotels
