Venting..has anyone felt overwhelmed with cost of wedding?

Jasmine , on December 3, 2018 at 11:59 AM Posted in Planning 0 24

Good Morning,

Have anyone else had any changes or a wake-up call?

I hope all is well. I have started to feel overwhelmed by the cost of this wedding. My fiance has expressed some concerns and we are not backtracking. Luckily our wedding isn't until June! We have decided to cut out the guest list and looking to cut in order areas as well. After this weekend, I realized that I want my wedding to be great however, I'm not looking to please others. I was so stressed about the guest list and now I am like cut, cut, cut lol. We are planning to have a child after and I just want to be comfortable after the wedding. Certain things I wanted well thought I wanted, I am not realizing it's not worth having and this wedding is about my fiance and me.

I think this is totally normal! After planning some, we realized how much was adding up! It definitely freaked us out how expensive the day was becoming and we had a few moments where we thought of all of the things we could do with that money instead but at the end of the day we're happy with the decisions we made. It's all about you being comfortable!

It crazy how it adds up so fast. I never knew how expensive weddings can be until you are actually planning one. As I cut our list down, I feel better and comfortable with the decision.

I only freak out every time I look at my estimated budget lol. I would like to think it wont be as bad as I think. I'm pretty certain that we'll have a good decline rate, as the only people local to the venues are FHs immediate family. We only have 110 guests and I've read that for DWs you can expect (on average) a 50-70% acceptance rate so...that allows me to breathe a little better!

So we sent out maybe 7-10 the other day but they are for sure guest we are inviting. The rest of our STDS are sitting on our table.

This is what I am thinking as well. My fiance was like maybe we shouldn't cut our list but I am like we will be saving thousands of dollars and it will decrease more because some still my decline. My only stress is for those who say's their coming and not show up.

I'm feeling you. I keep trying to look online for discounts on wedding related stuff all the time. My heart sinks every time the prices go up.

I for sure had to reality check myself about 1 month after I set our initial budget! I went off the average wedding costs and didn't realize how heavily that is influenced by living in more expensive areas.

I totally feel you. We changed our plans quite a lot since we first started planning. No we have a cheaper venue, less guests, a lot less decoration and we feel very comfortable with how much we are spending.

That's great. I suggested to my Fiance maybe we should look for another venue but we love our venue but cutting the guest list will def help with the budget

My starting budget was waaaaay more than anything I saw on WW or most sites like this. Even with that, within a month it increased by another 50%, and in the end it's looking like 175% of my initial budget. So...not quite double an already-generous budget by WW standards. That said, I am not stressed about it, or regretful. I am an older bride than average (also by about 175% lol), have the means, and am going to "do it up right" in just 28 short days.

I was glad I had 19 months to plan, so I was able to get a ton of quotes for lots of vendors & venues. We are in Denver, so things are a little more expensive than some areas. I'm also blessed with a very generous father, or we would have had to have a much smaller wedding than we originally planned. Congratulations!

I’m sorry but cost was literally like choke worthy in my opinion

people buy homes in my area in full full for less than the cheapest routes to a nice wedding lol

like would own the house no mortgage and just pay yearly taxes and maintenance lol

I can only imagine. I just know I dont want to break my savings on our wedding. I know its really important but the last two weddings I went to the feedback from the bride and groom speaks volumes.

Agreed. Money always makes me anxious to I've already floated the idea of cutting the guest list to ensure we have the other key people or things we wanted

Hi Jasmine, during the beginning stages of wedding planning I became quite stressed and a little sad that the wedding I saw in my head might not actually be within reach. As if things aren't already pricey for throwing a party the second you mention wedding the prices double, or even triple. I kept on thinking to myself where do normal people with normal budgets get married at, then I started educating myself on everything that was needed and what was extra. I remember FH one night was telling me it would be alright and that we'd have the wedding that we deserved but by no means would I allow ourselves to go over budget to celebrate 1 day. I looked for package deals that include the most all while keeping my initial idea. Venue that included all tables, chairs, linens, plates, etc as well as food, alcohol, entertainment, cake, etc. We've stayed within budget and still are cutting back on things as we go along the way. Our wedding is March, 2019 and the closer I get the more I just want to marry my special guy and get on with our lives!
