Vendors not cashing checks right away

Hey guys! Anyone have any trouble with vendors not cashing your checks right away? I paid a deposit ($200) for hair/make up and this is going on two weeks that it hasn't been deposited. I can understand a few days but two weeks is too long in my book. I just want them to take my money lol. I think...

I can understand a few days but two weeks is too long in my book. I just want them to take my money lol. I think it's ridiculous but let me know if that typical. It almost makes me want to cancel the entire thing and go with a more timely company.

Our photographer took 2 and half weeks to cash the deposit check. Ticked me off so badly. Her excuse was she forgot about it. Ugh...I wish I could pay cash. We paid our dj in cash but got a receipt.

Our florist/decorator took three weeks. I was starting to think she lost the check!

Yes! It takes forever for all of my vendors to deposit my checks. It's super irritating

My photographer sometimes takes awhile, but other times it's right away. I'm assuming it probably depends on how busy he has been

It took my hair and make up artist months to cash my check! It's ridiculous.

I'm having this issue too (sort of). I would call a vendor and give them my credit card information and then they would say "Ok, so I won't process this until xxxx date." And then I have to beg them to just process it right away - they don't understand that you just want to check that payment off and not think about it anymore. Also, that puts one at risk of them forgetting to charge your card and then the day of say "Well you didn't pay."

All our vendors took checks too. I would just call the MUA to check that she got it. That might be enough of a kick in the pants for her to deposit it. With mobile banking, there is no excuse IMO to not cash a check right away!

Our venue took a while to cash it. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I wouldn't worry to much about it, but I would check in. I sent a payment to my venue/caterer a few weeks ago and they still haven't cashed it. I know it's their busy season, but I find it hard to believe they haven't been to the bank! Frustrating because I have to remember that my bank account is $2,000 less than it shows!

I would contact them if it's been at least 2 weeks. I'm the same way that I hate seeing money in my account that really isn't there. I would never pay cash for a vendor.

@OGSue... I would question my credit card details laying around for anyone to see. If I am giving you my credit card number I am expecting that you are typing it into whatever system you use to be charged at the moment.

FWIW, I'm a therapist and get paid in all forms-- cash (Yay!), checks, and credit cards. Since I'm old-school, and take my checks to the ATM, it can take me a while to take them over. Of course, if you're dealing with a bigger business, like a venue, I would expect them to be speedier about it, but if it's an individual, like a photog or MUA with her own business, it may take a while to feel like she has enough checks to even bother taking pictures to deposit electronically.

Our rehearsal dinner venue (firehouse banquet hall) took two months to cash DHs check. It was super annoying and badly timed. The check was handed to them. I don't understand why people hold onto checks more than a few weeks though. Honestly in this day and age, you should be able to deposit a check within a few days max via cellphones. I do get vendors wanting to wait until they have a few deposit at a time though

Pay with cashier's check! Its out of your account and you can still have paper trail just in case

I wouldn't do cash...at least with a credit card or a check there is a paper trail. Even with a receipt cash can be hard to prove it was given.

In the digital day and age, when I get TAKE A FREAKING picture with my phone and deposit it that way. There is NO reason to not cash a check.

@Celia, please for the love of god, use the mobile app on your phone to electrically cash your client's checks.

Our venue took a couple weeks to cash our deposit, which made me nervous. I wasn't sure if the contract was valid if they hadn't taken the deposit from us yet, so after a couple weeks I followed up with an email. The check was cashed the next day.

I created a "wedding only" checking account, that way it doesn't interfere with my day to day transactions. It's less of a headache and have peace of mind, especially if they decide to do any fraudulent activities on my account.
