I don’t want this to come across as rude and I respect all brides who can pull off a DIY wedding, but my biggest pet peeve is when people say that when vendors here the word wedding they jack up prices and I’ve noticed it a lot lately. I just thought I would share this article from Preston Bailey...

In know way is it meant to cut down the DIY brides and budget brides! I agree that weddings are expensive but I don’t think it’s the vendors fault for charging prices so they can cover their bills at the end of the month as well. He also does a section on price transparency, for those of you who are wondering about how prices are set, read it. The hardest thing about weddings is that (hopefully) you only do it once, so you have to do a crash course on educating yourself on so many different things and I don’t care what any one says planning a wedding is like a full time job! I thought that maybe this could help

I know how much gas costs, and if between me booking and when I use the limo they told me there was a surcharge because of gas, I'd probably be fine with it.

But if I call you to find out how much a limo is for four hours, and you tell me $400, and 5 minutes later in the same conversation when you find out it's for a wedding you now tell me that the price is $550, I'm gonna want to know how much extra gas you're putting in it to explain that $150 difference that occurred in the SAME CONVERSATION.

I've seen gas prices go up quickly, but not $150 worth in ten minutes.

Justine, TY for the link. It was interesting.

Imho, if one has a talent, they should be compensated. If that talent is over the top, &can be backed w/ great product /reputation, they should be compensated w/ over the top pricing. I guess it would be the difference in hiring say Samantha or Cydney to plan my wedding and hiring Colin Cowe.

However, I have experienced 1st hand the difference in pricing for venue/caterers. My example is very much like D1. It was caterers & use of venue.

Re florists, my 1stt time at the altar, I married into a family who owned(now divorced) a local chain of flower shops. I know all too well that when you order a doz red roses for V- Day, it will cost you at least 2 X more. If a bride is asking for flowers that are not in season, she should expect to pay more. I think the best way to approach a florist is to bring your inspiration & ask how it can be duplicated w/ flowers in season.

At the end of the day, you get what you pay for.

There will always be people willing to pay whatever price they're given. Many of us would obviously take our business elsewhere in such a case. And we understand the point you and Celia are making, but you and Celia are the kinds of vendors who can explain extra charges and show added value.

We don't understand standard vendors and why they would charge more than double for the limo in Krystal's town. And for math's sake, it's $100/hr for prom, $217.80/hr + tip in her case -- in that time, he's going to use $589 more gas?
