Vendor not responding – Advice needed, Updated!

Giselle, on February 7, 2013 at 6:51 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

When is it time to say I’ve had it, you are fired?!

So I have this DJ company that is also going to do up-lighting and photobooth. We hired them for two reasons. First, they came very well recommended by our wedding planner and second they have a bilingual, Hispanic DJ. Well, before the holidays they sent me this form that I have to fill checking the types of music I wanted, do not play list, etc. I told them, that I wanted to meet with our actual DJ to talk about our reception because, none of the elements in the form fit us, as we want different things. Is not only about the language is also about the culture. Anyways, the guy tells me, yes let’s plan a meeting with you DJ.

I am still waiting for this meeting to be scheduled, I’ve sent multiple emails and the responses I get are vague: “we are trying to coordinate with him”, if I get a response. I have a hunch, not sure what it is, but something is not right. The point is I am very disappointed and tired of waiting. Don’t really

I have a hunch, not sure what it is, but something is not right. The point is I am very disappointed and tired of waiting. Don’t really trust them anymore. The problem is we already gave them $1000. Should I just loose the $1000 and find someone else? Or am I being a little too inpatient?

If it were me, I would contact them one more time and ask them to explain why you can't get a true answer about meeting with your actual DJ and that it is bad business to send you messages that are vague. When you gave them the money, did you sign a contract? Do you have anymore payments to make? Did they tell you this deposit was non-refundable? Basically you need to put your foot down or up (their ***es) and let them know you want to go over this and your wedding is too close to not have details ironed out, especially if you don't like the way the plan they have is set up. If they don't respond within two business days and your deposit wasn't "unrefundable" then I would take other action and find another DJ as fast as possible, and call the BBB. It might not get your money back but it could hurt their business with a bad review. Also, your wedding planner, what does she say about all of this? Maybe she can help get in touch with them as well because she suggested them?

Contact your wedding planner and let her know how dissatisfied you are.

I did sign a contract. I don't have it with me now to read it, but I'm sure it is a non-refundable deposit.

I asked my planner about it six days ago (just looked it up to be sure), and she said, "they are not ussually this way, I don't know what's going on, but I'm trying to get the appointment". It is so weird! My guess is that the bilingual DJ has gone missing and they don't know what to do... :-/

Well, mistery solved! My planner shared the news with me, it seems that the owner is selling the company. Rumors of a nasty divorce are in the air. I'll bet they will go out of bussiness soon if they don't get their act together.

I still have not heard back from them, not even to acknowledge my messages. So I just told my planner I don't want anything to do with them, I don't care if they sell or not. Thankfully she was ready with a list of other people we could contact. Now we need to see who's available. She said se will do an effort to try to get my refund back, but it might take awhile, or it might never happen, acoording to her and I understand. Sucks, big time!!

I would not give up on the deposit, but MJ is right - better this than a no show DJ.

I know, I'm more relieved now that I know what's going on. And the "funny" thing is, that first email they sent me with the form, I just realized was an auto-generated email. Then I forwared my inquire for an appointment to the owner... So today I recieved another of those auto-generated email reminding me that I have to pay the leftover!!
