Vendor issues! Help!

Rachel, on June 7, 2020 at 5:44 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5
Hey everyone! I’m in need of some advice and opinions! The photographer I hired for the wedding is absolutely awful with communication, to the point of it taking her 2+ weeks to get back to me and answer a question. I completely understand photographers are BUSY and have a lot going on! The issue that I’m having is that this particular photographer can post on multiple social media platforms numerous times without responding to my messages or emails. We initially put a deposit down last September for a package that came with an engagement session included. Our wedding is this coming September, three months away. (I understand everything g has gotten crazy with COVID, that is something no one can help or bell blamed for.) Our engagements were just done in May, when we were told we would have our gallery within the week. We are now entering the fourth week post engagement session, no gallery. And yes, I have reached out. But the photographer is yet again posting from sessions she has done since ours all across social media. With the inability to have proper communication with the vendor, I’m honestly pretty frustrated. My question is this, would it be unacceptable to drop them from my wedding? What would anyone else do in this situation? I’ve been having communication issues since we booked. My first engagement session was canceled by the photographer, but then posting about it on social media, and not contacting me directly until I reached out and was contacted back the day before the session was supposed to happen. I know I signed a contract, but if the photographer doesn’t actually shoot the wedding, is there anything that can happen? Any advice is greatly appreciated! Sorry for the long post!

I don’t think that’s a bad thing if you want to find a new vendor. However did you sign a contract? Did you pay a deposit? Check your contract for policies regarding cancellation and what not

I did sign a contract and pay a deposit. We paid a $150 deposit. I was hoping to at least get the engagement session (40 minutes shot in the same spot of one location), but it doesn’t look like that will be happening. I understand I will be out the deposit, I’m not getting that back. There is a spot in the contract about cancellations, but it only talks about if the photographer has to cancel, not if the client does. Also, I don’t actually have a copy of the contract that the photographer has signed. I signed it and emailed it to them, but never received a copy with their signature on it. I know that probably doesn’t make that big of a deal though.
Thank you so much for your advice. I’ve been thinking about this for a while, but I don’t want to cause any more drama than what has already happened. And I have a fear that they will try to make me pay the rest of the contract somehow. I was pretty upset in my engagement session, the photographer was talking about other clients having to cancel and requesting refunds due to the pandemic, and talking badly about them. It was unprofessional.

Look up legal actions to take for vendor issues like this because that seems unprofessional I would also Start looking for other photographers before you tell them how they are per unprofessional because if they come back at you being rude at least you have another photographer to take your pictures and then you can take legal action to just get your money back and you can do that by going to small claims

I wouldn't cancel until you have another one booked, but you can definitely cancel if you want to!

Wow! It should never take that long. We had our engagement shoot last weekend and got our gallery yesterday morning. I would definitely start looking into another photographer.
