Vendor Help!

GINA, on June 6, 2020 at 2:10 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12
Hi guys,
So in the middle of planning my wedding- I booked a small business for my bridal shower.
I was going to use their rentals for a selfie wallI gave her a $187 deposit No contract was signedIt was all through Instagram, she sent me an invoice and everything
I had asked before I paid about her policy on deposits & she said she would credit the deposit for a future date which I was totally fine with
2 weeks ago I messaged her and to inform her that I postponed my event and I just needed confirmation that she would be able to take my deposit for a later dateShe saw it and never repliedI figured she was busy and forgot right? I sent her another messageShe saw and never repliedThen another today she saw and didn’t reply
Is this shady or am I being impractical?

Very shady. This is why reputable vendors have contracts. Get on the phone instead of texting. If she still avoids you, report her to the BBB and find another vendor.

Go to BBB.org and follow the steps they list.

Sorry that's happened. That's definitely shady. I feel like no matter how busy someone is, they'd have the decency to let you know that they are currently unavailable and will get back to you at their earliest convenience. No contract scares me, legit or not. The fact that she continuously avoids you, is really unprofessional. I would look for a different vendor.

Yea it sucks when you don't end up working with someone you wanted to. That's how I felt about my dream wedding venue. We had started paying and we were forced to cancel. My heart still breaks. Good that you filed a claim with your bank. I hope you're able to find another venue that you love just as good or even better. Good luck!

This is super shady. I would send her a "firmer" message and tell her that if she doesn't reply soon you'll be reporting her to BBB. That should get a response out of her if she cares, or she'll still not reply and you can just move on knowing you did your best.

If she keeps posting about the other events she is doing. I would comment on each of them saying you messaged her MULTIPLE times and it would be much appreciated if she wrote back refunded your deposit. It gets to the point and allows others to know that she might not be professional to work with

I would comment on her most recent post. Word it kindly and directly to her, and say that you’ve been trying to get in touch with her via phone and private message to discuss your event, and you still haven’t heard back. Ask if there is another number to call for service. If she cares about her future business and what potential clients might think of her being unresponsive, I would guess she’d respond to that. Hope it works out!
