Veil to cover your face? Too old fashioned?

Maybe I'm just too young but both my FMIL and my mom were shocked that I wasn't going to cover my face with a two tier veil to walk down the aisle. Honestly I'm not even sure I'm doing a veil at all. Do brides still do this? What's the reasoning behind it? I generally disregard what my mom says but...

I did. Smiley smile it was a surprise to H. I had to whisper to him when it was time to lift it. He told me after that he loved that I did it.

I personally don't know anyone who has worn the veil over her face. But def do whatever you feel comfortable with! I'm not wearing a veil at all personally.

My mother and mother in law both wore hats. My mother was such an anti-traditionalist she refused to wear a veil. Still happily married 40 years later.

Not only old fashioned, the origins of the veil over the face are ridiculously archaic and sexist.

I was with you and didn't want to wear a veil at all, my mom convinced me otherwise and I'll be honest - a veil looks great with my dress. But I literally would never wear one that covered my face. That's just me. I honestly don't think that's an expectation these days? It was never even brought up by anyone in my family when we talked veils. But, do what makes you happy, you don't have to do it just because they tell you to.

I haven't been to a wedding in the last ten years where anyone actually wore a veil over their face as they walked down the aisle. I have only seen brides wearing it in their hair. But I think you should do what makes you comfortable. I am going veil-less. My grandmother is a bit shocked but she got over it pretty quickly.

I think most wedding traditions come from bad, sexist origins. Including blushers. I wore a veil (not in front of my face) because I liked it and thought it was pretty, end of story lol Smiley smile if you want a blusher wear one, if not, don't. I agree with you. I just disregard what my mom thinks when it comes to my outfit/the way I looked. That's for me to decide.

I'm not religious nor super traditional but I honestly just love the drama and freedom of placement of a drop veil. My personal style tends to be very vintagey in general though. I want those really cool artsy pictures of me in the veil with the sunlight shining through. My FH doesn't care what type of veil I wear.

My mother in law told me that as sheer as a blusher is, it made her feel safe from everyone looking at her.

The main reason I bought a two-layered veil was to be able to take pictures of us kissing underneath; I love the way those pictures look. I honestly never thought about it covering my face as I walk down the aisle.

Im wearing a drop veil, so mine will be covering my face, but its super sheer. my plab is to have my dad stop next to my mom and for her to lift the veil and smooth it back. a) i wanted to involve my mom more directly and b) i know shell make sure it looks good! with my dad who knows what would happen!

I originally didn't want a veil at all. I ordered one for $8 off of wish and did a mock up of my hair and whatnot...fell in love and will be having a veil. Not over my face though.

I believe that it is all personal preference at this point. I don't like the look of a blusher but I am excited to wear my long one for the ceremony and pictures!

My dad got upset when I said I wasn't going to do a blusher, apparently pushing it over my head is part of his "vision" for the day. Since he cared more than I do I'll do it. It's being custom made (since my mom wanted it made from hers), so I'm interested in seeing if they can move it to a second comb so I can easily take it off for pictures. Right now the entire veil is too heavy for one small comb and keeps falling out of my hair.

I will likely wear it over my face down the aisle. I have a vision in my head of pictures with the sunlight shining through it. I will likely decide the day of though.

I don't like stuff on my face or my neck so I don't think I'll have a veil covering my face. A blusher perhaps but I'm on the fence about that as well.

I love the idea of it. To have that moment with my dad, but I am also spending $400 on hair and make up and wanna show it off as much as possible.
