Veil to cover your face? Too old fashioned?

ZimWifey, on August 30, 2017 at 5:16 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 43

Maybe I'm just too young but both my FMIL and my mom were shocked that I wasn't going to cover my face with a two tier veil to walk down the aisle. Honestly I'm not even sure I'm doing a veil at all. Do brides still do this? What's the reasoning behind it? I generally disregard what my mom says but does she have a point?

I say do what makes you comfortable. I initially was not going to wear a veil, but I decided that I liked how it looked. I personally would not wear a veil covering my face - seems a little old fashioned to me.

I'm doing the blusher. As most wedding traditions, it's rooted sexist, archaic ideals. There's really no valid point nowadays. I like the way it looks, so I'm doing it.

    Lol good question!

Like @Dexter3000 I wasn't going to wear one until the sales associate talked me into one. Not sure if I'm going to cover my face.

It really depends on how you feel. I like the idea, and I can't wait for my dad to lift it up and give me away.

But out of all my friends who have gotten married, I am only one of 3 who did that.

It depends on how you feel. I'm probably not doing one. FH has terrible eyesight and refuses to wear his glasses for the wedding so it's not like he'll be able to see me walk down the aisle anyways hahaha

I'm not doing one. I'm not spending that much money on make up for my FH not to see it when he first sees me.

The beginning of this year I went dress shopping and my sister decided I should try on a veil with a dress so I did but she put it on my face and I said no I don't want to have it on my face so she just giggled but I also thought the same thing about it. (Old fashioned) It's funny I didn't think other brides thought the same. I still need my veil but I decided I am only doing a fingertip length and I want it simple. I think veil make you feel like a bride, it just brings everything togethernessSmiley smile

I believe it's origin is so that the groom couldn't see his bride until it was too late to change his mind during the days of arranged marriages lol. Others say it was to thwart evil spirits, and some counts say the whole reason we get walked down the aisle is so that we don't bang into anything because of said veil.

Also goes along with the whole bad luck of seeing the bride idea. I can't stand anything in my face so I won't be covering my face. Plus doing a first look so definitely there isn't a point in my scenario. While shopping you can always try it on and see how you feel.

Mine has two layers- one about waist length and the second cathedral and I thought about it but think I'd hyperventilate in it being so nervous walking down the aisle. Also I want to be able to see clearly where I'm going because I'm a trip hazard

I'm wearing a two tiered cathedral veil but I'm not sure it will cover my face. I have heard when it covers your face it really annoys your eyelashes, lol. I haven't fully decided but I might not do it.

It's entirely up to you whether you want to wear a veil or not. There are other choices like hats, juliet caps, facinators, flower crowns...etc. Today a bride can choose exactly what she wants...even to not wear any head covering if she likes!

I had been told by a pastor years ago that the veil was a symbolic barrier between the bride and groom. The action of lifting the veil symbolized that after that moment "there would be nothing between them"...or "hidden" as they started their life together.

My veil had a blusher. I was unsure if I would wear it over my face until the day of the wedding! I ended up wearing it because I am a huge daddy's girl and it was a special moment for him to lift it over. I loved my veil but I would do whatever is most comfortable to you! I didn't think I would even want one until I was shopping and trying them on with my dress, I knew I had to have one.

I did! It's was my dad's request and I loved the look of it. When we were shopping, I was totally composed - until my seamstress put the veil over my face!

I didn't have eyelash or lipstick issues for the ceremony, since I know those are common concerns. It also helps you remember to hold your bouquet down low where you're supposed to

I'm wearing a blusher. It completes the look for me.

I always wanted one but didn't want it over my face. I just love the drama mine adds. It's a cathedral. So I couldn't wear it over my face if I wanted, haha.

I'm incredibly dramatic so I really wanted the blusher. I loved it and thought it added some "mystery". My mom thought it was cool so I went for it! Do what makes you comfortable!

I am covering my face with a veil because it is a Jewish tradition to do so though I found different reasons it is done. It is also traditional that the groom puts the veil over the brides face before the ceremony and the he walks out to the Chuppuah to await his bride.

Wow, you ladies have me thinking now! Perhaps I should consider it. My dress is pretty elaborate and I think a simple fingertip veil would look best. I have not seen many veils with blushers, so I'll have to look harder.

If I paid an arm and a leg for my make up you bet your ass it's not going to be covered by a veil. Lol. I'm personally not a fan of the look but if you are then I say go for it.
