Veil or no veil? Pros and cons?

Courtney, on March 16, 2016 at 10:41 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 29

Just wondering everyone's opinions on veils. I'm on the fence whether or not I want to wear one. Our wedding is in a country village and museum (its kinda like a whole 1800's village) so its very rustic. I posted a picture of me and a couple bridesmaids at the dress shop when I went to try on my dress. I am planning in keeping my hair down in a half braid if that helps =) Thanks!

Personally, I'd skip the veil but I'm just not a fan of veils in general. Have you tried any?

I am also back and forth about this! To be honest the veil isn't worth spending the extra money on, but at the same time I'm afraid I won't feel like a "bride" without it!

Beautiful dress! I don't think a veil is necessary if you don't want one. Maybe look for an alternative hair piece? Ultimately, do what makes you feel pretty!!

In my personal opinion its an essential accessory as it completes the whole bridal look. I know they are expensive and you can either order from aliexpess (from china) for less than $20 shipped or make your own also less than $20.... I ordered from ali and it was beautiful... only thing is that I want it a bit longer. I will now make my own.

Maybe consider wearing one for only the ceremony?

I agree with @Cathy, I think the veil completes the look. Without it your just a pretty girl in a pretty white dress IMO

I was convinced that I didn't want a veil, I wanted a sparkly headband or hair piece instead. But when I found my dress I kept feeling like something was missing and none of the hair pieces looked quite right. So I tried a veil and I fell in love, it really completed the whole look for me. I think you should try some different veils/hair pieces and see what makes you feel best, because you never know until you try it.

I was dead set on not wearing a veil but when I found my dress I actually really liked it with a veil. I am torn if I will wear one or not, but I'd say try your dress with and without one to see what you prefer. You might surprise yourself.

Thanks all I will try on a few the next time I'm home. Is it fairly easy to make your own? I live in AK and the wedding is in NY so I'd have to make it and then ship it or wait until two weeks before the wedding and make it then.

I love the way my dress looks without a veil but am wearing one just for the ceremony....I figured it's my one chance to wear one, and I'm more likely to regret not wearing one at all than wearing one for an hour. I agree with the PPs that Etsy has amazing deals, my 90" one was only $40!

I love veils and plan on having one. I haven't picked one yet but I've tried a few on. They make me feel very "bridal".

I went into my appointment convinced I didn't like veils and wouldn't be trying one on. My MOH put one on me just to see, and it totally made the dress. I mean it was beautiful without it, but it just finished it off.

Does anyone have a veil with short hair? Every veil I've seen is worked into the hair being up somehow.

Although I did have a veil and loved it, it was a byzillion degrees at my outdoor wedding, and it was HOT under there. Of course, being so excited, I hardly noticed-- till my dad lited it to give me a kiss, then put it down again. It was a moment of "Whew! Fresh air!" then back to "OK, I'm smothering-- thank goodness the ceremony is short!"

I'm skipping the veil because my dress is not a traditional wedding dress and a veil doesn't really go with it. I'll just have a rhinestone headband instead. I it's your call though what you want to do. I think strapless dresses, such as yours, look good with veils because there is some space between your face and the dress where you can really display the veil, but if you are wearing your hair down, then that can fill the space as well.

I'm probably not going to do a veil because I live in FL and our wedding im planning on it being 20's themed unless I change my mind. It depends on your wedding theme the venue and climate.

I'm wearing a veil but no blusher. I tried a blusher on in the store and couldn't help feeling like a kid under a sheet to dress up as a ghost :p

I say it depends on your theme and scenery. If is out door definitely skipping the veil is ok.
