Veil help

Alyssa, on September 6, 2019 at 7:22 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 4

Has anyone worn a pure silk drop veil? I am absolutely in love with it but I plan on wearing hair pins in my hair and I am terrified they will snag and tear the silk. Is this a risk with any fabric? There is also the option of a silk style tulle, which falls like silk and is so soft but less expensive. Also, for my dress, I am thinking fingertip or ballet/waltz length. Thoughts on length? I am 5'3" and will wear my veil on top of a low bun hairstyle. Here are pictures for reference. (Disclaimer: These pictures of the dress are not of me and I found them on google).

Thank you!

I didn’t buy a pure silk veil but I was strongly considering it. It will tear more easily but I don’t think your hairpins will be a problem. Silk tears more easily when you sew it but it’s not like tissue paper, it’s just more delicate.
Waltz would look pretty with your dress!

I don’t know anything about silk veils. I just wanted to tell you your dress is beautiful. And the veil looks great with it! I’d do it if I were you!! So stunning!

    Hi there Alyssa Smiley smile

    Welcome to the WeddingWire community!

    Firstly, your dress is gorgeous!

Do you have a seamstress or someone in the store where you’re considering buying the veil who could assist with the material type and worries of it snagging? As they’re super familiar with all different materials types, they may be in the best position to advise!

I think either length veil would look wonderful with your dress, it’s a question of what you want your wedding look to be. Fingertip length veils are quite flirty and playful, while a ballet/waltz length creates quite a romantic and ethereal bridal look.

Which would you say is more your wedding day look you would like?

Hello everyone! Thank you all for your comments. I have decided to go with the waltz length drop veil. Since I will be securing it with hair pins, rather than a comb, I can always adjust it to any front/back length combination and create the look that feels best for me. I am definitely still leaning towards a silk veil, as it is just so soft and gives such a romantic look. If the hairpins make me nervous after trying the veil with them, I could always opt for a headband that wouldn't be as risky to snag.
