USPS mailed invites back to me.......

Katie, on September 21, 2017 at 8:30 AM Posted in Planning 0 53

Hi!

Has anyone had issues with USPS mailing invites back? I put our return address on the back of the envelope, because I thought it looked nicer, and we got about 20 of them sent back to us. USPS apparently scanned the back of our envelopes and used our return address as the "to" address. This seems so absurd to me. Has anyone had this happen or heard of this, if so, what did you do? Did USPS make you pay for postage to resend? I'm also a little irritated because now they are going to look pretty worn having to go through the mail twice, and I spent so much time on them...ughhh...also worried I'm going to get more back later...

This sucks! I'm so sorry, OP. I would take them back to your actual post office and tell them about the situation. Hoping they don't make you pay to resend them!

I've heard about that possibly happening when you put your address on the back of the envelope, but I don't think I've seen anyone on here with it actually happening before! I agree with going to a post office and asking what you can do to make sure they make it out the second time around.

THIS IS SO WEIRD.....never heard that before

FYI - I also put my address label in the back of the envelopes. You have to go to the post office and investigate into it and see what they can do for you.

Thank you all for responding!! Glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks this is so strange. I was seriously BLOWN away when I came home and 20 were in my mailbox. I attached a picture of what they look like, clearly that is the back of the envelope - lol...

It's just odd that it can do that when there isn't a stamp on the back of the envelope either....

That doesn't even make sense! Your stamp is clearly on the other side. I've never seen this happen before.

Definitely see what they can do. I would try to refuse to pay postage again, but good luck!!

I had put a stamp on the left side on one invitation and asked the post office if it would be fine or if I needed to re-do the envelope, he said the stamp was fine but the fact that my return address was on the back was a bigger deal. He basically said depending on the post office and who is work, they may send them back out of frustration because at that point they've been hand sorted.

That is so bizarre! I put my return address on the front because that's just a force of habit. But shoot, I actually just received a STD in the mail yesterday and they put their return address (which was a small sticker) on the back! That is so annoying, I'm sorry that happened to you.

Do any of you happen to know if there is a chance for the ones that are going further that they get re scanned in the wrong way at another sorting destination? Or do they only get scanned at the location they are dropped off at?...if that makes sense...

Ugh what a pain! Ours were on the back side too, and we had no issues.

I would take it to the physical post office and talk to them.

I put my return address on the back and no issues here they clearly don't know what they are doing.

I would think that because they postmarked the envelope on the wrong side, you'd be able to re-mail without new postage, because the stamp wasn't actually postmarked.

Oh wow, we put our return address on the back and did not have this issue at all. It sounds like someone working in the post office was new and never mailed a letter before in their life! Hoping you do not have to pay extra for postage.
