Updo or hair down?

Lindsay, on August 31, 2021 at 12:39 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 8

I'm so torn if I want an updo or my hair down! I definitely feel most like myself (and most beautiful) with my hair down. I did two hair trials with my hair in an updo (one I hated, the other I thought I loved but I'm just not sure about myself in the photos - I'm self conscious about my profile view with my hair up).

I would definitely do hair down, but my dress has a beautiful low back and I have very long hair. Also, it might be over 100 degrees and windy on my wedding day.

I don't really have time (or money) for another trial. What would you do? Up or down?

Do you have any pictures of your dress? That would definitely help decide my suggestion. But based on what you wrote, I would do half up half down. You loved one of the trials that you had and it would help in case of hot weather.

Same for me! Thought I wanted that "wedding" updo but I NEVER wear my hair like that. They say don't try a new style on your wedding day because it's true you really won't feel as pretty. I sure didn't feel my best lol. Have you thought about a bob? You could get a short one, a long one or a long in the front and short in the back...that way you can still get the view of the dress but still have that long hair in the front. That's what I'm doing. I'm totally for wearing it down. I'm also not paying for another trial so my fingers are crossed that she can achieve the look I'm going for. Am I nervous...HECK YES but I don't have the time or the extra money to spend on it.

You definitely want to feel like your most beautiful and confident self on your wedding day, so ultimately I'd say to choose whichever hairstyle makes you happiest!

However updos stay in place way better and don't show sweat or mess from the wind like it would if you leave your hair down!

Have you thought about a low braid or pony? That could be a good compromise to keep your hair composed without a full updo:

Agree with this. Maybe look on Pinterest for braids and similar styles. You have it down but it’s off your neck to prevent sweating with the hair down.

How do you normally wear your hair for special occasions? Everyone is their own worst critic.

I generally feel prettier and more feminine with my hair down but opted for an updo for my wedding because I always feel hot when dancing with my hair down and constantly am pulling it out of my face. And that was without contending with 100 degree temperatures and wind.

If you have an updo look that you loved, I would go with that. You'll feel more physically comfortable throughout the night, and likely won't be as self conscious as you think when you are enjoying yourself and there are ample other distractions. I would advise differently if you didn't like the updo, but it sounds like the primary reason you are hesitant is that an updo is a bit out of your comfort zone because its something different for you. Different isn't necessarily a bad thing if you like it!

So I also feel more confident and pretty with my hair down (and I don't know why but I feel it hides my double chin in pics), but the back of my dress is similar to the pic below (not the same dress but similar enough back), so I decided that I'm going to do a loose updo with strands framing my face and hope that I like it. I'm a ways out from a trial still so maybe I'll change my mind, but I want to show off the back of my dress, and I have long hair so, unless I chop my hair I dont see me doing something other than a loose updo. Something like one of the images below probably
