UPDATED Mom says I shouldn't wear white to Rehearsal Dinner

I've been sending my Mom photos of dresses I'm considering to wear to the RD, trying to make her feel involved since I've done most of the planning stuff overseas and she's been shooting them all down. I've been sending my Mom photos of dresses I'm considering to wear to the RD, trying to make her feel involved since I've done most of the planning stuff overseas and she's been shooting them all down. I really want to wear white with a pop of another color, some sort of pattern or detail. Finally after the latest rejection (she said the dress would make me look like a nurse, lol), she told me that I shouldn't go for white just because I'm getting married and to look at other colors.

What do you ladies think? Wear white cuz why not for a wedding event? Or take all colors into consideration? And what color will YOU be wearing?

I think you should wear whatever makes you feel good! As long as your happy with it it shouldn't matter Smiley smile

I hear her on how brights would pop too, I guess I'm just a fan of the contrast. maybe your white dress, but a vibrant makeup look. super bright lipstick maybe. I think that women with your skin tone should take advantage of being able to wear pure white and have it look fantastic vs washing you out like a paler girl.

I'm either going to find a whiteish dress or something more like my wedding gown - blush sequins on top with blush chiffon on bottom.

Stitching Bride- The dress on the right is the one she said would make me look like a nurse, lol. The one on the right I actually LOVED and it went on sale so I ordered it online (she didn't like the floral print)...didn't fit me well :-/

I think either way is fine. I bought a white cocktail dress because I ran across one on sale, but I may not even wear it to anything. Depends on what mood I'm in that day. Smiley smile. Blue is my favorite color, so I may end up wearing blue.

Nurses don't wear dresses..and most don't even wear white lol. So I'm not sure how that would make you look like a nurse. That's funny lol

I think you should wear your favorite. I'm wearing white to my RD. I like both of your dresses Smiley smile

Wear whatever you're comfortable in. To me, if you're mature enough to get married, you're mature enough to pick out your own clothing. You can tell her it's going to be a surprise if she pushes to know what you're wearing. Plus you have a crap ton of time!

I don't think there's a specific rule for this, whatever you like best should be what you wear! I'm not wearing white though because the white dresses I have I wore for other wedding events (shower, bach party etc) and I don't wanna buy another because I honestly don't see myself wearing white dresses after the wedding. I'm looking for something that I will definitely be able to wear again.

Mine is kind of a mauve/light purple color. I love it!

Taryn- Right! I don't get the nurse reference, lol. FH thought it was HILARIOUS though.

B-2-Z- It's not about me not feeling comfortable picking my own clothes. I'm just trying to keep my Mom involved in little decisions like this if I can since I've had to do most of the planning on my own since I live an ocean away and I know it makes her sad that I'm not there doing this stuff with her sometimes. Obviously I'll pick what I want regardless, but I was wondering what your opinions were about white vs. any color for the rehearsal.

@Christine, that white w/floral is cute, but if it doesn't flatter your figure, keep it moving. As others have said wear what makes you look fabulous and feel great! Personally, I'm on a white binge, LOL! I just sent a white RD dress back that didn't work, but I'm on the hunt again. But at the same time I look at purple dresses, since it's my fave color/wedding color.

@Alicia, I LOVE your dress and total look! I'm a fan of a pop of color on the shoes/accessories.

My sister said this! So I'll probably wear a fitted black and white back dress with a slit to the RD! Our wedding is black and white so it's perrfect!

NaShara-Black and white sounds perfect for you indeed :-)

Dori- I agree. I think I'm gonna expand my search outside of white. I can def see myself in a bright, solid colored dress, maybe even in my wedding colors, which I hadn't actually considered.

I'd just be straight forward with her! "Mom, I know I wear neutrals a lot, but I really want to wear white for my wedding events. It would mean a lot to me if you could support my vision and help me find a dress that you love too, even if it's not a color that would be your first choice. Your enthusiasm and involvement in this are really important to me!"

@Christine, I know what you mean, my IL's are in a different country, it's hard to keep them in the loop when they're far away. However, I said choose something that you find comfortable. Personally I love when brides take advantage of wearing white to occasions. I wore a little white lace dress with bright ass shoes Smiley smile

Wear what you want! I am wearing a white dress because I want to. I had actually given up finding a white dress because I couldn't find one that I liked. Once I stopped looking for white I ended up finding the perfect white dress. Go figure.

Gotcha B-2-Z. Comfort is definitely high on my list regardless of color, which is part of why I'll be expanding the search. I haven't seen as many white dresses that fit that requirement as I have colored ones.

I would like to know what hospital or medical office has nurses that wear strapless, fitted, floral dresses. That would be trendy as hell, but not very conducive to working lol! I think the white floral dress is fab, glad you ordered it. I think it would look great on you.
