Updated conversation about Lily & Lime

Am, on September 19, 2018 at 9:48 PM Posted in Planning 1 18

Hi! I am considering using Lily & Lime's photography & videography services. I know they are a fairly new company and in previous posts (year a half ago or older) people have cautioned against using them because of their online-only system/use of free-lance photographers. Does anyone have any updated experiences with this? What's the current consensus?

    Hey Abby!

I found some reviews for Lily & Lime on our WeddingWire vendor search tool ! It looks like the most recent reviews were left throughout this past summer Smiley smile

It also looks like they have great reviews and even have a WeddingWire Couples Choice Award!

What other vendors do you have left to book?!

We are using them. We're having sort of a destination wedding and booked most of our vendors online. The photographer we chose (you do get to choose your photographer), I absolutely would have chosen her on her own. Customer service has been top notch. I can't tell you about their online-only system - not sure what you mean there? But you get what you pay for. Do you want to wait a year for rights to all digital prints? It's super cheap. But - we negotiated this to get our rights right away AND we got two extra hours at no charge. So if you do choose to go with them, negotiate negotiate negotiate! And we don't want the fancy album or anything. We'll likely do a photobook from Shutterfly or somewhere down the line.

We’re using them as well! We were able to pick our photographer, and unlike how it sounds on the website we were in contact with her the week before our engagement photos, and she even rescheduled our time due to sunset timing. She was someone we totally would have picked on our own had we found her on her site before. We’ve been waiting to download all our photos from the engagement shoot and just have them on our computer which were both 100% ok with. I agree with pp the customer service is great and negotiating goes a long way.

Thank you all for the advice! Can I ask where you saw the piece about waiting a year for rights to digital prints? Also, how did you negotiate the contract? Via their customer service reps?

By not getting digital rights for a year, does this mean you don’t get photos for a year and/or you can’t use them (post them, print them) for a year? Also, I won’t need to pay for the digital prints right? I’ll have access to all of them for download right away/when available?

And lastly, how many photos woulf you say you guys received?

sorry if any of these are silly questions! Really appreciate the advice and hearing from your experiences!

I’m still unsure about the rights to the photos and the waiting a year as posted by Victoria. But my fiancé and I are flexible and will wait to get the photos.
When they are available you are able to download and have them printed wherever you would like.
As for numbers we received 40 preview photos one week after our engagement session and then just a few days after we got the previews we received almost 500 photos. Including some edited and a bunch of the duplicates that aren’t edited. Those we wait 2 weeks to have download access and be able to print which isn’t bad at all in my opinion. For reference our photographer said she took between 900 and 1,000 photos at our shoot. If that’s any help. Wedding day wise I’m unsure since our wedding isn’t until June 2019. Hope that helps!

I signed our contract with them almost 9 months ago, and I know they've changed packages so the year wait for digital negatives may have changed, but would be included in your price. This basically meant that you could view them online for a certain amount of time, but I don't think the rights were actually released to you to be able to print or anything for a year. I know we'll have access to ours right away, but that was in the negotiation because it wasn't included in the 6-hour package that we signed up for, which actually doesn't even exist anymore because we got to handpick our photog. It looks like maybe they release the negatives right away now too. I guess a lot of brides must have negotiated that. We also had 2 extra hours added to our package at no charge, which we'll probably use some but not all of. I tried to squeeze out a second photographer for a super cheap price too but no dice. I was getting greedy. Lol.

We're not married yet (29 days!!!) but I seem to recall it was 300-350 pictures? Not sure on that one. What I can tell you is that I called them and they were awesome to to work with and they answered all of my questions before I booked with them.

Just wanted to update to this. We we're married about a week and a half ago and just got our sneak peek photos. They were absolutely gorgeous! We did not actually meet our photographer until the day of, but we loved her and all of her ideas for photos and our guests just raved about her after the reception was over. I would without a doubt use them again.

The rest of our photos will be released to us for download in 6-8 weeks once they are ready. The sneak peek photos came with a watermark, the "real" photos will not. We're very excited to see the rest!

Has anyone used Lily & Lime for videography? If so, would you be willing to share your highlight reel? Thanks in advance!

I ended up hiring them just for videography (for August, 2019). A little bit of a gamble since they only have a few samples of their work. I’d also love to see people’s highlight reel who used Lily & Lime and are willing to share!!

Savannah, I’m sure you’ve already seen, but they have 3 videos of their highlight reels on Vimeo. I too want to see more than just those lol

I was really disappointed with my L&L experience. I should have just spent the extra $1000 to get a real professional and be happy with our photos/video.

The engagement shoot went great, but our wedding photos are a complete disappointment - SO MANY out of focus shots, and big shadows on people's faces (like she wasn't seeing how to arrange us in advance). Weird choices of backgrounds and poses. Just obviously not a true professional who had honed her skill at weddings.

They don't let you know the videographer until a few days before, so you can't have a meeting in advance to talk about what you want. Our edited video is a disaster with choppy hard-cuts (no transitions), important missing portions (including my husband's vows and the bridal party entrance to the reception), and no footage of the reception aside from dancing (so we miss out on seeing everyone who wasn't on the dance floor).

Our photographer was a full-time teacher who did weddings on weekends for fun ... NOT the purported professional photographer that Lily and Lime advertises.

I would NOT recommend Lily and Lime to anyone.

Oh no! Jennifer I’m so sad to hear you had such a bad experience. Ugh. We hired them for videography for a wedding in August. Do you mind sharing what state you live in? Did the videographer not record those things? We’re the camera angles bad? Or did the editing team just do a bad job putting it together?

Also, did the lily and lime team agree to make any changes to make the edited video better? 😬 so sorry you had the experience. Super worried we’ll have the same 🤦‍♀️

We are awaiting our requested edits, so I'm not sure if they have the footage or not ... you have to pay like $500 extra or something if you want access to all the raw footage, which we didn't. I'm praying they have it.

Yeah I'd say to talk with your videographer and be specific with what angles you want (e.g. almost our entire ceremony was on an angle, so you could see my face but not my husband's ... who would've thought you had to be specific about wanting a straight-on shot?!) and that you want footage of everything. They don't let you know the videographer until a few days before, so we just didn't have a chance to talk with him or ask questions or request things.

The editing is very basic and choppy: no nice fade-in-fade-out transitions or anything. Again, I guess we get what we pay for. Same with photos. All the awfully-lit, shadow-faced, and backlit photos stayed that way; no editing AT ALL unless you pay $20 per image. This of course wouldn't be an issue if you have a good photographer who knows how to take a quality well-lit photo in the first place, which we obviously didn't (ugh).

BUT, now that you know, just go in with clear expectations and I'm sure you'll have a better experience! Good luck! Smiley heart

Hi again Jennifer! Do you mind sharing what state you’re from and perhaps your video? I understand if not! Just so curious what they actually produce if it’s not like the sample videos they advertise 🤦‍♀️

Have they been responsive to your complaints and edit requests? They make edits on video for free/included right? Or is this not the case?

: Disappointing Experience with Lily and Lime: Poor Video Quality, Noisy Drone, and Unwillingness to Refund

I recently had a rather disappointing experience with Lily and Lime, videography service that I had high hopes for. I hired them to capture a special event, but unfortunately, the outcome fell far short of my expectations, leaving me dissatisfied on multiple fronts: video quality, drone noise, and their refusal to compromise on a refund.

First and foremost, the video quality delivered by Lily and Lime was far from what I had anticipated. The footage lacked the crispness and clarity that I believe is essential for capturing the essence of any special occasion. Despite discussing my expectations with the videographer beforehand, the end result left me with grainy, pixelated, and subpar video footage that failed to do justice to the event.

Adding to my disappointment was the excessive noise produced by their drone during the shoot. I had chosen Lily and Lime in part for their promise of aerial shots, hoping to add a unique perspective to my event. However, the noise generated by the drone was not only distracting but also disruptive to the atmosphere I was trying to create. It significantly marred the experience for both me and my guests, and I couldn't help but feel that the lack of professionalism in managing the noise was a major letdown.

Perhaps the most frustrating part of my experience with Lily and Lime was their unwillingness to consider a refund or any form of compensation for the subpar service I received. I understand that sometimes things don't go as planned, but it's crucial for businesses to demonstrate a commitment to customer satisfaction. Despite my attempts to discuss my concerns and seek a resolution, I was met with resistance and a lack of willingness to acknowledge the shortcomings of their service.

In conclusion, my experience with Lily and Lime left me deeply dissatisfied. The poor video quality, disruptive drone noise, and their unwillingness to work towards a reasonable solution were all major disappointments. When hiring a professional service, one expects a certain level of quality and customer care that, unfortunately, I did not find with Lily and Lime. It is my hope that they take these criticisms to heart and work towards improving their services and customer relations in the future.
