UPDATE!! :) Sottero&Midgley/Maggie Sottero Brides...any problems??

Jessica, on February 18, 2012 at 1:17 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

I ordered my S&M dress back in Sept (Tracey). The shop I ordered from had the sample dress in 12P. Although I'm 5'5 the length was perfect so I ended up ordering a 10P. Last month my dress came in, and when I went to try it on, there were 2 major problems: 1) The hem is uneven in the front (the middle is about 3 inches off the floor, the right hits right above the floor, the left stops about halfway between the 2 SMH), making it 2) too short overall. So the shop sends it back. Last week my "replacement" dress came in and over the weekend I went in to try it on. Same problems! It was obvious that S&M sent the same dress back without fixing anything!! I'm a little PO about the whole situation but I guess there's nothing I can do since it's not the shop's fault Smiley sad Plus they're being very helpful so I'm keeping Bridezilla away lol.

Is anyone else having dress problems with this company? Or dress problems at all? Thank God my wedding isn't until June, but still! :/

UPDATE ON PAGE 2!! Smiley smile

I have a Maggie Sottero and I didn't experience any problems. Sorry it isn't going too well, but you still have time. Hopefully they'll get their acts together and send a new dress!

Yes! They were supposed to send a new dress the first time but we see how that went smh hopefully they will this time though. The manager at the shop told them my wedding was in April so they would hurry up and get it done LOL but hopefully they don't change the date on my certificate!

The store is a middleman between you and the manufacturer. So yes, in fact they're the ones who need to fix the problem. It's amazing that they would send the same dress back, like you're not going to notice it?!? Good news is that there's still time for them to fix it. But honestly, what you're describing sounds as if the dress came from a Chinese knock off site.

Thanks everyone for sharing! Smiley smile

OMG @Mrs.S, I hope it isn't! The store is supposed to be an authorized/premier retailer for S&M!! How can I find out if it's a knock off? Also, it came with a certificate with a seal, but can that be a fake too? And yeah I was skeptical that S&M would do that because of their reputation but I don't want to make accusations against the shop...but yes, whatever happened they thought I wouldn't notice, silly them! As much as I paid I want it perfect!

Oh, I didn't mean to say the dress is fake - sorry if I freaked you out! I meant the problem sounds like the dress is fake, and I'm having a hard time believing that S&M don't care about their reputation so much that they would send the same dress back.

When did the store say the new dress will be in? I would probably call the designer and ask. It's not a small error.

Oh okay lol! And yes I'm having a hard time believing it too but unfortunately it's all I have to go on :/ The new dress should come in about a month. And yes, maybe I will have to make a call...

Just tried on my Maggie dress, it came in looking great, sorry you are having trouble. Are you working directly with the store management now?

@ Sami B, yes I'm working with management. The manager was there when I went in last week for them to take the exact measurements I need to make the dress the right length (instead of just going by S&M measurements). She also took pictures to send. The owner was there when I tried on the 2nd dress and was very helpful as far as trying to figure out where the exact length problems on the dress were (since there are a lot of "sections" in the skirt) and explaining how they were going to handle it with S&M. She was even there when I tried it on the first time it came in, but I thought she was a seamstress (oops!) because she helped take the measurements to send to the company when they remeasured me. Thank God she agrees with me about all the problems (even saying herself she thinks they sent it back w/o fixing anything) cuz I know how some people can try to make it seem like the bride is crazy or being picky when we're not!

@Irchykk - thanks, I hope they do too! Smiley smile

Oh how I love the abbreviations on this site...

My Maggie fit perfectly, like I don't need any alternations at all... But even with a company known for it's workmanship, there always has to be a lemon somewhere. I'm sorry that it seems to have been your dress! I'm glad you ordered so far in advance and am sure, especially since you stated the owner was being so helpful, that this will be taken care of long before your big day and it will be perfect!

My Maggie was ordered in Sept and just came in late January, 1st fitting last week no problems...just needs to be bustled, and hemmed about 1/2 inch.....How is the shop getting a new Maggie Dress so quick, normally takes 4-6 months...I hope it's not a knock off like one of the other above said

Ahh this thread makes me nervous... I ordered a sottero and midgley (adorea louise) petite because I am 5'4 and the regular was WAY too long. I hope it comes in okay.... Its supposed to be here in april, I can't wait!!! The owner of the shop I ordered mine from said that with the petite if I wear 2 or 3 (we will know when it comes in) inch heels I shouldn't need it hemmed.

@beach08 my order is almost exactly like yours, ordered early Sept, dress came early January. But I think with the problems there are with the dress, they are probably doing it as a rush order. I know a lot of companies offer this for an extra fee, which I'm sure they waived for my situation since it's their fault.

@Lauren, don't be nervous! Like Judith said, mine was probably the 1:**** chance it would be a lemon! :/ But yes, I tried on a very similar dress to the one I ordered in a 10P (the store's sample dress) and it was borderline too long with my 5in heels lol so you should be good to go with whatever you choose.

@Jessica M yeah it sucks but hopefully third time's the charm! Smiley smile

Can you remove a layer of crinoline to see if that drops it down a bit?

@Kristi Y, that is a really great idea and we had never thought about it! If we still have that problem for the third dress (crossing my fingers that we won't), I will bring it up...thank you!!

@ Singing Diva, yes it is a big relief that they're bring so helpful. Now if only S&M would do their part! And I will def keep you all posted! Smiley smile

Oh Jessica, I am sorry to read about this. I am glad the owner is going to make sure it is fixed though.

Cate's veil is Maggie's Bernadine. I sure hope that there is nothing wrong with that when it comes in.

HI LADIES!! Thanks to LOTS of prayers and your well wishes, my 3rd dress came in last week and the situation is finally done! But of course a little drama along the way...

I went in last Thursday and the hemline is straight across!! Woop woop! The only issue I had was that it's still 1 1/2inches off the floor :/ Way better than 3inches, but I still hated the fact that you could CLEARLY see my shoes (doesn't help that they're hot pink) while I'm standing still, and looking in the mirror, I felt that I wouldn't like how the pics might come out if the dress was too short. So I had a minor breakdown and was crying like a baby lol (yes, I can laugh about it now). The owner must've felt bad for everything I was going through with the dress and said that if I wanted to get a lower heel (the hot pinks were 5inches), she would give them to me with the dye to ivory for free. So I ended up with 4 in lace pumps that leave just enough room to not drag on the ground and match perfectly with my...
