Unorthodox wedding idea, friends only wedding

Kaitell, on July 25, 2022 at 11:55 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7
So I’m having a destination wedding in Mexico and the villa i’m paying for everyone to stay in has very limited space. After agonizing about who can fit in for the last few weeks I’ve decided to just make it a family only wedding and then have another super fun and lit friends only wedding. Maybe in Vegas or Cancun. For the friends only wedding, I would pay for food and maybe even accommodations.

Is this a bad idea? Is it rude since my friends can’t be part of the intimate family wedding? Any potential issues I’m not thinking of?

Besides pure cost, I don't think there's anything wrong with this! By cost, I mean are you planning on hiring a DJ, photographer, caterer for both? Or is it more of a "let's go to a resort and party for a week!" type of thing? I don't think your friends would be offended by this, and if they are, they have other issues to sort out lol

I'd probably make a spreadsheet and gather the real cost of everything and make sure it's something you guys are willing to / can afford, but other than that, it sounds awesome to me! Go for it!

Do you want to plan 2 weddings? You may tire after 1. But, you can also make the 2nd more casual. In Las Vegas, you just need 24 hrs to get the U.S. license, and hotels can easily put people geographically together. Most resorts have Hosts to help you book group activities, etc., and there's always low cost/high cost options. One other possible problem, is that if a wedding ceremony is not planned, your friends may think this just a friends trip. They may have other ideas for their annual vacation. But, if you keep to a short weekend in a low cost month, could be fun and accessible for many. Best wishes.

Do you really want to plan 2 weddings? It will be cheaper and less work to have one wedding where everyone is invited and save the destination location for your honeymoon.

I love this idea. I think your friends will understand. The fact that you are considering another event for just them makes it very special.
