Unnecessary Splurges?

Ava, on March 24, 2021 at 1:13 PM

Now that I am into the full swing of planning, I am seeing so many “extras” available for weddings! Things like ice sculptures, cigar rolling stations, pyrotechnics for the first dance or send off. Are there any items that are completely unnecessary for your wedding, but you just HAD to have it...

Are there any items that are completely unnecessary for your wedding, but you just HAD to have it anyway?

My friend did a s'mores bar and almost nobody took advantage of it (including me). I've had a lot of friends do the wedding favors, but they're left with a lot of extras. We are considering doing a selfie station, but other than that and games/extra refreshments, we aren't doing anything crazy.

We are having a winter wedding and, even though it is indoor, we are having a coffee and hot chocolate station to keep everyone warm. My whole family loves hot chocolate and my FH's family are serious coffee snobs since his Puerto Rican mother imports theirs in bulk from the island. Probably will splurge on getting the good stuff for both which I am expecting to be a chunk of change.

This is in addition to alcoholic drinks, cake, etc. So I consider it a splurge for my $5,000 budget.

We are getting married in August and we are doing midnight munchies ( sliders, mac and cheese sticks, fries) and an after hours bar to let anyone staying at the venue get confortable.

One of the caterers I am considering offers a "flaming donut" station. I'm actually not much of a donut person, but the idea of having a chef pouring rum on donuts and then lighting them on fire is incredibly tempting. Donuts and a show.

Viennese hour!!! SUPER unnecessary, venue provides a cake anyways, but we saw it and both were salivating LOL. FH and I are both very health conscious (him more than anyone else I’ve ever met) so we’re looking forward to a fun cheat day and know that our friends and family will love it too!! Plus I can’t wait to see the pictures of it!

    We're doing a cigar bar!

We're planning on just buying cigars in bulk, putting out a few cutters and lighters and calling it a thing. Nothing Fancy!

One of the things that drew my to our venue was the promo they were running for a free deluxe hot chocolate bar if we booked. We booked at the very beginning of 2019, and we since had to postpone our original date of September (we got legally married though) to late July ‘21. I’m not sure who wants to drink hot chocolate in hot, humid NY weather in summer but you’d best believe I’ll be having some haha.

Me! All of what you said above is me! Here is all I have that is not “necessary” but would make the day ideal: cold sparklers, monogram floor wrapping , upgraded chairs, violinist.. the list goes on.

But, it’s your day and if something is going to make it more memorable I say go for it!

I love the tequila bar idea! I am not a drinker, but I do love a fine tequila, so I know I would definitely partake in this.

I adore this. I would be the person who spent the cocktail hour chatting with the parrot.

We are doing all local alcohol. We have a brewery we love to go to so we are getting beer from them. Then there is a local distillery that makes rum and vodka (his and my favorites) so we are getting liquor from them. It’s not super extra but will definitely add to our budget.

Totally agree! If it’s in the budget, go for it!
