Unnecessary Splurges?

Ava, on March 24, 2021 at 1:13 PM Posted in Community Conversations 1 58
Now that I am into the full swing of planning, I am seeing so many “extras” available for weddings! Things like ice sculptures, cigar rolling stations, pyrotechnics for the first dance or send off. Are there any items that are completely unnecessary for your wedding, but you just HAD to have it anyway?

We're doing a smores bar! We both enjoy camping and hiking and the outdoors, and so we thought it'd be fun to incorporate that into our wedding through a smores bar. It's not necessary since we're serving a dessert with dinner, but realized that we could set it up cheap enough to where we wanted to include it anyway (plus, any leftovers will come with us on our next camping trip, so there shouldn't be any waste).

My fiancé REALLY wants a cigar rolling station, but it's just not in budget.

I didn't realize how many extras you could get for weddings before I started planning!

I love this! Not only does it incorporate something you and your fiancé love doing together, but it is also super practical since you can use any leftovers! Plus, who doesn’t love s’mores?! I bet this is going to be a huge hit with your guests!

So far nothing extra, but our venue has an outdoor fire pit so Illinois weather permitting hopefully we will have s’mores too!

I know! FH and I knew we wanted to incorporate some unique aspects for our guests, but our wedding planner is bringing SO many options to the table! It is making it so hard to choose! My fiancé liked the idea of the cigar rolling station as well. The hotel we are having our wedding at actually has a dedicated gentlemen’s cigar room, so she suggested setting it up there. But It requires guests taking the elevator up to the room, and I am afraid that is going to lead to the men congregating up there instead of at the reception. So I vetoed that idea LOL We are both huge tequila lovers, so we are contemplating having a tequila bar with a catadores (like a sommelier for tequila).

We are in Illinois also! Totally get the “weather permitting” thing. Especially in October! It could be 70°, or a foot of snow!

We are doing a cigar rolling station, a gelato cart after dinner, and adding some extra stations during cocktail hour....in particular I really want a meat carving stations and a big paella pot station.

We added some extra stations to cocktail hour, but probably the most "extra" thing we did was hire a parrot to come to our cocktail hour. By day, he lives in the lobby of the resort, greeting guests and at night he lives with one of the bellman. It wasn't that expensive to have him come to the cocktail hour and everyone thought it was hilarious. Made for some fun photo ops haha.

That is so unique and so fun! I absolutely love any opportunity to get up close and personal with animals! Was it a talking parrot?

We went to an open house at our venue and there were so many extras we never would have thought about!

There was a vendor for small fireworks, a live painter, and custom neon signs! There was also a mobile photo booth that was made from a vintage airstream!

I think my favorite was this couple that renovated two vintage trucks. One is a mobile bar for your cocktail hour, and the other is the same but with coffee, smoothies, cider and hot chocolate, Plus, the back had coolers for gelato and ice cream!!! Like what?! I have the money saved up for it, but FH talked me down and made me realize that it's really not that necessary, but lawd did I want to book them lol!!

I have been to several weddings with Boba bars, and they are always a hit! Especially with kids! They all seem to go gaga over the “bubbles”

Oh my gosh, I hear you! Like, take my money right now!! I adore all the mobile food and beverage options available right now. Our planner has used a guy who attached a mobile champagne bar to a vintage bicycle, and he will ride around your outdoor cocktail hour serving champagne. I think this could easily go hokey, but we saw pictures and the bike is adorable, the attached bar is beautiful, and the gentleman is super stylish- looks like he was transported straight from the streets of Paris. I am actually very relieved we are not having an outdoor element to our wedding, because that would probably open up another 50 options to choose from! Lol

We are seriously on the fence about doing a "midnight snack"! It's totally extra and not necessarily in our budget but we love the idea. Either cookies and milk or popcorn for literally right after everyone gets done dancing, before the send off!

I know right?! We got to sample the coffee and gelato they had and it was to die for lol. I turned to my FH and said: "How about we skip the cake and dessert and just do this lol"

Ahh! That sounds so cute!! Imagine needing another glass of champagne and this cute bar rolls up behind a bike to help. Adorable.

Girl, as a guest, I would have zero complaints about a gelato and coffee bar in lieu of cake!

Oof, don't tempt me, because I still have that money saved up just for it hahaha!!

Maybe later on I can convince FH that it's a need not a want 😉😂

You could remind him that a lot of couples purchase expensive wedding day gifts for one another... but you would be more than happy to get the coffee and gelato cart as a combined gift for the both of you 😉
