Hi everyone! Is anyone planning on doing a unity type ceremony? I love the sand unity ceremony and love the idea of having a decoration in my home for years to come as a symbol of our love and reminder of our wedding day. What do you guys think?

We are not doing the unity candles, especially after my younger sisters wedding almost 2 years ago. She forgot to make sure the candle could be lit. I saw a really cool idea and I think it really compliments and defines our relationship, it’s a time capsule. You have your family and friends place items in your time capsule before the ceremony and then for the ceremony you and your soon to be husband add your item to the time capsule and then seal it. It is to be opened on either an anniversary or on a day that you both feel like you need to remember why you both decided to get married. Kind of cool in my opinion.

The sand is super cute! I want to do the painting mixing colors as well so maybe just a fun thing we do during or after, but we are doing the ropes/fabric

What is the background or idea behind this? Is there a script or something that goes along with this?

We are doing the unity braid as well. I’m actually working on it now (nothing is attached except words and need to paint cross)I chose our colors instead of the traditional colors. We will have a small insert with both original and new colors to explain what each color represents and the whole meaning behind the ceremony.

It's the same thing in the sense that you are uniting as one, tying the knot as unity, becoming one, etc. I still have to get specific on it but I've read its an old irish celtic tradition as well as a pegan tradition. There's so many options of what to do or use and there are some commentarys to help know what to say. I'd like to wrap the knots around us, tie them together then say our vows and finish the ceremony that way after placing rings? Not sure yet exactly. Would like a piece of my dress from alterations and some of his tux or something of that nature!

I think we're doing sand. Ceremony is outside so doesn't bode well for lighting a candle. We're just trying to find a vessel that we want to display not just put aside. Not loving the vases, maybe one of the frames. Need ideas on this.

We are doing a hand fastening ceremony. It's where our hands will be tied in an infinity knot with 6 colored cords. Each colored cord represents an aspect of what will be brought to the marriage. Our wedding party will help lay and tie the cords. We met at the renaissance festival and this is completely us. I am making the cords for it.

We did a unity candle, but my husband and I made our candle. We chose a Bible verse together, incorporated our wedding colors in the font, and added lace from the veil my mother made for me. To be honest, a unity ceremony was something we weren't going to do, but the face we made the candle together and used it made it totally worth it!

I like the idea of the age old Celtic blood bond, with wine instead of real blood, of course 🤣

That's a really cool idea and one that I had looked into as well. Having scraps of fabric is a variation that I haven't seen before but would make it so personal and special to you. Best of luck to you

My Brother and his wife did a frame with their of their engagement pictures in it and it turned out really cool. When I was batting around the sand idea I was thinking of an hourglass. Its different, functional and looks pretty cool. Hope this helps with ideas.

Love the paint drip idea! Was it messy / difficult to do when your MOH did it? What paints did they use?

We are doing a Unity Cross. I found it online and fell in love with it. It is so pretty and is such a good thing that will be able to be displayed in our home forever! I highly recommend you look into it!

I don't remember the exact brand of paint but it was an acrylic paint you can find at the craft store. It wasn't difficult at all, we did a trial run where we figured out the water/paint ratio and how to set everything up so as not to get paint all over the floor. For that, we took an art easel discreetly lined the bottom with foil and plastic wrap to catch the paint then we and the easel sitting on a canvas tarp just in case any paint dripped. When they did it for their wedding it turned out beautiful. I wish I had a picture to share but she hasn't gotten them back yet.

Everyone I know who did the sand one said the first time they move it all the sand mixes together and it loses the pretty pattern, if that’s something you care about. We did a glass ceremony. So you mix glass crystals together and then we sent them off to be blown into candle holders
