Unity ceremony

Crisa, on January 31, 2019 at 6:35 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 1 61
Hi everyone! Is anyone planning on doing a unity type ceremony? I love the sand unity ceremony and love the idea of having a decoration in my home for years to come as a symbol of our love and reminder of our wedding day. What do you guys think?

I think it is beautiful because the sand represents you becoming one.

That's exactly how I feel and have always loved this idea. Plus were getting married on the beach so it goes along with it well.

We are planning to do a unity ceremony. We will be potting a seedling to plant on our property. I really love how special it is to do that together. I've seen glass that is then hand blown into a piece for the home, the sand ceremonies, all kinds of beautiful things that carry beautiful symbolism.

I love that idea!! I'm an environmentalist so the idea of having something that you grow and take care of for years to come sounds perfect. I love your name on here btw.

No, I don’t plan on doing it. I like the idea of doing something that represents two becoming one, like the unity candles, but I also think the two original candles should stay lit. Even though we are becoming one with our spouse, we should always remember our individuality.

Simone I agree with that too. I love the symbol of joining together but also staying true to yourself.

We will be doing candles BUT our individual candles will be halves of a circle with wicks on the outer edge which we will light seperately then push together to form the whole. Because of the exact reason you stated. You don't lose yourself but rather bring yourself into that union.

We would put the cross together during the ceremony to represent unity, it’s more like a faith base keep God front and center type of thing.

We’re doing the candles. Our mothers will light each side and then we’ll light the center. I know it’s not original but I think it’s so sweet.

I wanted to do the candles. Have one member of our family bring in a lit candle and have the both of us light up one as a symbol of our unity but my outdoor wedding might not work with it. I’m now doing the tying of the hands with a robe.

We will be doing a "Cord of three strands". We will braid it during the ceremony and we will hang it in our house after.

I was looking for ways to include the children in the ceremony and I came across this and I love the idea.

We are doing a puzzle unity ceremony. I found someone on Etsy that makes them. It has 4 large pieces - each piece has one of our names and then "family" with the wedding date on the center piece. Although I like the sand and candles, I wanted something different.

We're going to do a unity ceremony. We wanted something a little different. We talked about candles but it's an outdoor ceremony, the venue doesn't allow it and although really sweet, it's over used. Then we talked about the sand but again over used (both my siblings did sand and all of his family has done candles) so again, not for us. My MOH did a really cool drip paint (pictured) for hers that I wanted to copy and modified with a letter instead of just canvas (pictured) but FH didn't want to deal with the mess of paint. So we found a rope braided thing (pictured, for inspiration) that's perfectly us.
