Unity ceremony...what are people doing??

My nephew and my new niece did an Irish hand fasting at their wedding last week. The "cord" was made of strips of material from the MOB, MOG, and grandmother's wedding dresses. The FOB read the significance/history of the fasting ceremony and his brother wrapped and tied the cord around their hands. Then the FOB said a blessing in Gaelic. Not a dry eye in the crowd!!

We're doing the unity cross. We want my son to have a part, so he will be helping me place my cross, and then we will each place one of the golden pegs.

We are doing a hand fasting as well. We really liked the idea of "tying the knot" as it used to be.

We will probably do a sand ceremony but I'm originally from CA and moved to NJ to be with FH so we will use sand from each coast. It has a lot of meaning to us otherwise we would just skip it all together.

We aren't doing one. My advice to you- do something you know your going to want in your house forever..... I cringe when I see people poring bright colors of want into plastic bottles....

We made a unity crystal where we each submerged a seed crystal in a supersaturated solution which was cooled during our ceremony. It turned out beautifully. We displayed it on our sweetheart table afterwards.

We are doing a unity painting. We will pour some paint over a canvas and it's something we can hang in our house. I'm a huge art person so I have art everywhere and I'm very excited to do this!
