Unity Ceremony Idea- Spices?

SCre, on January 20, 2011 at 5:04 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

Hey Ladies!

So my fiancé is a chef and we're bouncing around a potential idea for our unity candle ceremony...just with spices. So I suppose it'd be a Unity Spice ceremony. Smiley tongue

We realized there are a few issues with this idea. One, we need to find 2 spices that would layer/work well together. Two, we aren't sure if this would preserve well.

Just wondering if anyone has seen this done/done this before or has any good ideas overall. We're just trying to incorporate something "us" into the ceremony that's unique.

I have never seen it done, but there is always a first time. I love the idea! I think the unity candle and sand ceremonies are boring. Yes, the spices preserve in a sealed jar. I have many small jars of spices of different colors that I actually decorate my kitchen with. I have had them displayed for years. Obviously, I would not eat them. Smiley smile Why not try Cinnamon and a White Pepper...or two other spices of different colors dark and light.

We are doing a path joining ceremony. I am writing it myself.

    Good luck!

I would be wary of pepper... might cause sneezes. Smiley smile

Love it! Every spice has a meaning besides a taste; it's a lovely idea. Keep in mind that you want your jar to be fairly small; spices are REALLY costly!!!

I wouldn't do anything powdered, otherwise you might end up with it on your dress (ie gound cinnamon = orange streaks)

I think this is a wonderful idea.... and would have totally stolen this from you if not already married. My hubby is a chef as well.

I immediately thought of dried spices such as basil, oregano, thyme, sage. Then I thought they may be hard to "pour".

Are you getting married indoors or out? Indoors, I dont see things such as cinnamon blowing much and getting onto your dress.

Going this route there are SO many spices that would look great! Cinnamon & Ground Mustard, Paprika & Dried Mustard, Anything dark & Cream of Tarter, Garlic Powder & anything darker.

Good Luck and let us know what you figure out

Thanks for all the awesome ideas!

We're having an outdoor ceremony and it's by a lake. It does get windy, so we'll have to be careful about what we choose.

If we're real crafty, we may try to get one green spice one white-esque spice to balance with our colors. But ultimately, I won't really be bothered if it doesn't "match". Smiley laugh

I don't have any suggestions but I just think that is such a cool idea considering your FH is a chef. How cool!!

Go to spice of life wedding. They provide the vase, the spices and let you choose personality attributes according to each spice. Pretty Cool. I did this for my wedding

    Good Luck!

This is (a lot) late to the game... but can I ask what you ended up doing with this?

Sand has no relevance to our lives. And neither does a unity candle. We are both cooks though and I'd be much happier with a spice display to have up in my home than sand.
