UNITY CANDLE SUBSTITUTES! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?

We don't want to do the traditional unity candle ceremony so we're looking around for something equally as memorable and meaningful. We have just found something called the cord ceremony or God'd Knot. I like to hear some other options though. What are you ladies doing in place of the candle...

There is the a fore mentioned sand ceremony.

I've also seen at a wedding where the couple drank from 4 different little glasses with liquids that represented the 4 different periods or seasons that can happen in marriage.

There was something sweet, something sour, something bitter, and something hot. They were all colored according to the emotion. Sweet was pink. Sour was yellow. Bitter was white/gray. Hot was Red.

They had them in these very pretty little vials that stood up on the table.

We are doing a Celtic Oathing Stone... We're not making a big spectacle of it or anything, we're just going to get a stone with our wedding date engraved on it, and hold it in our hands as we say our vows...

"It is believed that holding the stone during the reading of the vows, casts them into the stone. The Oathing Stone ceremony originated in Scotland. It is believed that an oath given near a stone or water was considered more binding. "

We aren't doing anything for a unity ceremony. We just feel like in addition to the ceremony it's kind of fluff that neither of us really care about. Like others on here have said, the whole ceremony is about unity and we don't really need to do anything extra.

That said, there are some really neat ideas on here!

We did the wine box ceremony and received tons of positive feedback from our guests. They loved it. And we can't wait for our 5 year anniversary to open it back up.

We're doing a wine sharing. The meaning behind it is what we liked about the idea. And we thought it was a sweet intimate moment we could share w/ one another at the altar.

Dh and I did the unity box but with vodka and

Shot glasses instead of wine and wine glasses. My uncle made us this gorgeous box and everyone seemed to love that it was something different.

@tracy b: we hate wine, vodka is more our style... that was the only Unity thing I could find that Dh didn't find totally cheesy lol. Ppl seemed to really like the Whole vodka idea cause they expected it to be the typical bottle of wine. Vodka made it fun.

We can't have open flames at our venue, so we have opted to do a sand ceremony instead.
