Unique ceremony/reception ideas

Felicia, on December 18, 2020 at 5:17 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 19
My wedding in coming soon (May 22, 2021) and I'm interested in hearing some unique ideas/traditions you are considering/have done during your ceremony or reception. Everyone knows what to look forward to at a wedding, so I would like to implement something different.

My FH and I are doing a hand fasting! Litterally “tying the knot” if you will. 😆

Traditions are not unique. Not doing expected traditions is however. Take a look at offbeatbride.com for inspiration.
    What do have planned already?

Someone else's tradition could be unique to me. 🤷🏽‍♀️

A bold colored wedding dress..one of the oldest traditions. I'm planning to do this because white and similar pastel variations wash me out.

Afternoon cake and punch only. Another oldest tradition and been around longer than a full dinner. We considered it for 5 minutes but wanted something different from what my family is used to. Many social circles and regions still do this.
Dismissing the rows. Alternative to the receiving line and makes sure that you get to greet all guests before the reception. We've only seen this once but loved it.

I love the bold color wedding dress. I considered it for a bit, but ultimately decided on winter white. I ABSOLUTELY love the idea of dismissing the rows to be able to greet all guests before the reception. Thank you sooo much for sharing this.

I won't be walking down an aisle. FH isn't buying me a wedding band.

What will you do in lieu of walking down the aisle? Are you wearing something else in place of the band (matching tattoo, some other symbol of love etc)? I love seeing different ideas incorporated.

Offbeatbride has a lot of great ideas. Still on the fence about the garter toss. Gonna put a twist to my bouquet toss. Going to attach some scratch tickets & have all single & attached ladies come up for it. Might do that for the garter toss!

I'm going to look at it right now. I'm considering not doing the garter/bouquet toss as well.

My hubby & I have a love of books, films, and fun themes so we went with a pirate-inspired destination wedding and a swanky 50/60’s local reception three months later. A theme isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but I love how a couple personalizes wedding elements that are so “them.”

For our destination wedding in Napa, we had only 15 guests (pre-Covid), the reception was in an amazing wine cave, we had a violinist for the ceremony and an accordionist for cocktail hour who played sea shanties. No wedding party, no garter/bouquet toss, no DJ/dancing.Gorgeous unique venue, 5-star food & alcohol, intimate guest list, like a loud fun dinner party. Guests still talk about it 3 years later.
What are you looking for? A big party, or smaller intimate event? What’s the vibe and style you want?

I plan to get my FH a wedding band.

I absolutely love it! Those were my exact thoughts. I love when a couple personalizes their wedding to make it their own. It sounds like you did just that. How awesome!

You're so smart! We are not doing flower girl/ring bearer, bouquet and garter toss either. Only the MOH/BM will give toasts. I probably would have limited the bridal party to just MOH and BM if I had to start over.

It could be unfamiliar to you. Unique means you are the only one who has or does something. Traditions get to be seen by some people, liked, so they copy it and a bunch more copy it. More and more, copying what you liked that others did, you make a tradition. Having or doing the one and only, being unique, is the opposite of what traditional, doing what most have done, copying deliberately, and everyone having or doing the same things.

Judith, I'm perfectly clear on what each of the above means. I'm simply creating dialague to find out what others are doing differently. Thanks

We’ll be incorporating a couple of Filipino traditions to our ceremony! We’ll have a veil and chord draping to signify our union! You can search the details of these on google and several sources are available!
